At the Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology, at the Sahlgrenska Academy, we conduct research and education covering a wide range of knowledge areas.
The institute comprises five different departments: Clinical Neuroscience, Health and Rehabilitation, Pharmacology, Physiology and Psychiatry and Neurochemistry. The Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology, invites applications for a researcher position at the Department of Psychiatry and Neurochemistry.
Research on pathology and diagnostics in neurodegenerative diseases is well established at the Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology at Sahlgrenska academy. Several collaborative projects are established, and research for development of biomarkers in cerebrospinal fluid and blood has been particularly successful with several dissertations. The research group includes clinicians, neurochemists, post docs and doctoral students.
The job assignment include managing a research project and together with other researchers establish and validate new methods and to apply these methods to investigate disease mechanisms and diagnostic and prognostic relevance. Importantly, key findings should be summarized for future scientific publication. The experimental work primarily includes sample preparation using different protein extraction and enrichment techniques as well as antibody-based methodologies, but also analyses by mass spectrometry.
To qualify as a researcher, the applicant should hold a PhD in a relevant subject; molecular biology, protein chemistry or neuroscience. The candidate should have research experience in the field of protein/peptide purification as well as from using mass spectrometry. Preferably, this should be documented by scientific publications at international peer reviewed journals. Knowledge and experience from neurochemistry and protein extraction methodology as described above is also preferred as well as previous experience from working with complex matrixes such as blood, CSF and brain extracts. Ability to independently process and interpret data and to write scientific publications is required as well as being flexible, and have the ability to work collaboratively.

The employment is limited 4 months, 100 % of full-time and is placed at The Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology. Starting date; as soon as possible or as agreed.
