A post doctoral associate position is available to apply electrophysiological, fluorescence imaging, and cell biology techniques to study excitation and other membrane and cellular effects of ultra-short electric pulses. The position is open in the laboratory of Dr. A. Pakhomov of Research Center for Bioelectrics at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA, and is supported by extramural grants. Please contact the PI regarding further details of the ongoing and planned research projects.A PhD or an equivalent degree in biology, biophysics, physiology, biomedical engineering, or related discipline is required. Applicants with experience in patch clamp, live cell microscopy, physiology of cardiac myocytes and neurons, isolation of peripheral nerve fibers, and calcium signaling are especially encouraged to apply.
Job Responsibilities:
1. Maintains and propagates cells in culture, utilizes general cell culture techniques2. Analyses electrophysiological data3.  Performs experiments focused on cell membrane effects of nanosecond pulses4.  Performs experiments using fluorescence techniques5.  Isolates and maintains primary cells from tissues6.  Performs experiments in cultured cells7.  Provides training to students and technicians8.  Performs cell biology experiments9.  Analyzes data, reports results at research conferences and in scientific journals
