Applications are invited for a PhD fellowship/scholarship at Graduate School of Natural Sciences, Aarhus University, Denmark, within the Computer Science programme. The position is available from February 2022 or later.

Title:
SIoT – Secure Internet of Things

Research area and project description:
Many industrial systems contain communicating devices, connected in the so-called Internet of Things. The security demand on such systems is high, since they often monitor and control safety-critical environments. This project aims at analysing their security risks quantitatively, and at supporting the design of secure solutions.

The project approach will be to model attacks and countermeasures in a uniform framework, called Attack-Defense-Games, and to use automata theory and analysis algorithms to perform quantitative risk assessment. We will use models from formal methods and algorithms from game theory to synthesize controllers that balance performance, cost and security.

The SIoT project, coordinated by Aarhus University, is a collaboration within DIREC (Digital Research Centre Denmark) between four Danish universities and eight Danish companies. The project aims at theoretical progress in modelling and analysis with Attack-Defense-Games. We will take inspiration from case studies with interesting security challenges from the industrial partners.

Qualifications and specific competences:
Applicants to this position must have a MSc degree in Computer Science or a closely related field. The ideal candidate has a strong background in formal methods and/or algorithms, a demonstrable affinity with software or system security, and excellent collaboration and communication skills.

Place of employment and place of work:
The place of employment is Aarhus University, and the place of work is IT-campus Katrinebjerg, Department of Computer Science, Åbogade 34, 8000 Aarhus C., Denmark.
