Project: Repair “Reconstructing the Past: Artificial Intelligence and Robotics Meet Cultural Heritage” – GA n. 964854
Commitment & contract: Postdoctoral Fellow
Duration: 24 months
Location: CRIS Genova
WHO WE ARE
At IIT we work enthusiastically to develop human-centered Science and Technology to tackle some of the most pressing societal challenges of our times and transfer these technologies to the production system and society. Our Genoa headquarter is strictly inter-connected with our 11 centres around Italy and two outer-stations based in the US for a truly interdisciplinary experience.
YOUR TEAM
You will join the Soft Robotics for human cooperation and rehabilitation (SoftBots) Research line, coordinated by Prof. Bicchi, who has extensive experience in Robotics and Control Systems.
The Soft Robotics for Human Cooperation and Rehabilitation research line deals with the design and control of the next generation of robots. Perhaps nobody knows exactly how robots of the future will look like. There is a growing consensus, in the research community as well as in expectations from the public, that robots of the next generation will be physically compliant and adaptable machines, closely interacting with humans and moving safely, naturally and efficiently, and capable to assist weak people with a gentle force – in other terms, future robots will be soft and strong.
You’d be working in a multicultural and multi-disciplinary group, where robotic and mechatronic engineers collaborate with computer scientist and archeologist, each with their own expertise, to carry out common research within the RePair project.
RePair aims at developing and integrating innovative technologies in the fields of robotics and artificial intelligence (AI), to provide archaeologist with a tool that can deal effectively with reconstruction problems at an unprecedented scale and be able to bring back to life ancient artworks and masterpieces which otherwise would remain broken into pieces forever.
Within the team, you will be responsible for the development and implementation of novel algorithms to enable a robust and intelligent control of soft collaborative robots for the reconstruction of archeological artefacts.
The position includes theoretical and hands-on research, supervision of PhD and MSc students, preparation of grants and support of the general activities of the lab. The candidates must be capable to collaborate with a large and multidisciplinary team.
This open position/research is financed by the European Community within the RePair project.
