The post-doctoral fellow will work in the framework of the European Imptox project within the Department of Molecular Biotechnology, Environmental Technology, and Food Technology at Ghent University Global Campus in Incheon, South Korea. YOUR TASKS

The position is a 100 % research position. Main task description:

•         Sampling water samples in the Yellow sea (Incheon).

•         Analysis of metagenomics shot-gun sequencing data of microbial communities associated with microplastics.

•         Analysis of 16S metagenomics data.

The post-doctoral fellow will design and conduct microbiological experiments in the laboratory and in the field, analyse the results and communicate them in the form of oral presentations and scientific publications. The aim of the experiments will be to determine the role of plastic microparticles as structuring agents for marine microbial communities, and as a vector for pathogenic bacteria.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

           You can confirm that you have:

o         PhD in (Applied) Biological Sciences or Environmental Sciences or equivalent

o         Excellent and verifiable laboratory techniques pertinent to applied bacteriology, real-time PCR analysis, gene expression studies, and sequencing.

o         Hands-on experience in biostatistics by implementing different software such as R and SPSS;

o         Hands-on experience in bioinformatics.

o         Hands-on experience in programming with Phyton for bioscience applications.

o         Experience and have a strong interest or passion for biological data generation and data interpretation;

o         Proficiency in spoken and written English

o         Proven skills in scientific writing

o         Project and people management skills

o         Communication and presentation skills

o         Strong interest in this research domain

o         Solid publication record with first-author research publication(s) in peer-reviewed international journals ranked as Q1

o         Personality that is motivated, enthusiastic, critical and creative

o         Respect to all fellow colleagues

o         Desire and ability to multi-disciplinary, international and intellectually challenging environment;

o         Impeccable reputation with attention to quality, integrity, creativity, and cooperation;

o         Ability to meet strict deadlines and you are stress-resistant;

o         Personality that is flexible, responsible and able to work independently as well as in team;

o         International research experience (e.g. postdoc done in country other than the country where you defended your PhD)
