The Department of Astronomy at Stockholm University has around 80 employees. The main research areas are Galaxies, Supernovae, Computational astrophysics, Solar physics, and Planet and star formation. The institute invites applications of the position of a Postdoctoral Fellow in extragalactic astronomy. Stockholm University has access to a range of facilities including ESO, Rubin Observatory, and NOT membership, and the Galaxies group leads several major research campaigns with the Hubble (HST) and James Webb Space Telescopes (JWST), and ESO/VLT.

Project description
The position will be to work on spectroscopy of a large sample of galaxies in the early universe, and is coupled to a recently-awarded ‘Large Programme’ with ESO/VLT and/or JWST/NIRISS.

Main responsibilities
The position involves reduction and analysis of optical spectra obtained from the FLAMES instrument at VLT or HST slitless spectroscopy.

Qualification requirements
Postdoctoral positions are appointed primarily for purposes of research. Applicants are expected to hold a Swedish doctoral degree or an equivalent degree from another country.

Assessment criteria
The degree should have been completed no more than three years before the deadline for applications. An older degree may be acceptable under special circumstances, which may involve sick leave, parental leave, clinical attachment, elected positions in trade unions, or similar.

In the appointment process, special attention will be given to research skills. Expertise with optical multi-object spectrographs will be a strong advantage.

Terms of employment
The position involves full-time employment for a maximum of two years, with the possibility of extension under special circumstances. Start date in summer 2022 or as per agreement.
