The Department of Astronomy at Stockholm University has around 80 employees. The main research areas are Supernovae, Computational Astrophysics, Galaxies, Solar Physics, and Planet and Star Formation. The Department of Astronomy is situated at the AlbaNova Science Centre in Stockholm, together with the Department of Physics, the Physics Departments at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), and the Nordic Institute for Theoretical Physics (Nordita), providing a vibrant international research environment. Project description
The position involves modelling and interpreting supernovae (core-collapse or thermonuclear types) and/or kilonovae (neutron star merger ejecta). The successful applicant will work in the group of Dr. Anders Jerkstrand, which focuses on the theory of light curve and spectral formation in these transients, with aim to develop and apply models to understand their origin, explosion mechanism, and element production. The specific project will depend on the interests and background of the applicant, and several combinations of modelling and data analysis are possible.

Main responsibilities
The position involves carrying out research, both independently and collaboratively within the group. The candidate is expected to actively participate in group and department activities, and assist in supervision. The candidate will present results in peer-reviewed scientific journals and at international conferences. 

Qualification requirements
Postdoctoral positions are appointed primarily for purposes of research. Applicants are expected to hold a Swedish doctoral degree or an equivalent degree from another country.

Assessment criteria
The degree should have been completed no more than three years before the deadline for applications. An older degree may be acceptable under special circumstances, which may involve sick leave, parental leave, clinical attachment, elected positions in trade unions, or similar.

In the appointment process, special attention will be given to research skills as evidenced by publications, given presentations, community engagement, and interview. Experience with numeric or analytic modelling is a plus, as is also demonstrated ability to draw inferences from data using models.

Terms of employment
The position involves full-time employment for a maximum of two years, with the possibility of extension under special circumstances. Start date 2022-04-01 or as per agreement.
