The Department of Clinical Neuroscience (CNS) conducts research and education in the field of neuroscience from the molecular to the society level. Clinical research and education is conducted in collaboration with Region Stockholm (health care provider) as well as other research groups at Karolinska Institutet and other universities. At the Center for Psychiatry Research (CPF), successful research has been performed in the field of positron emission tomography (PET) for the last 40 years. This imaging technique has been used to investigate pathophysiology and treatments of a number of psychiatric and neurological disorders such as schizophrenia, depression and Parkinson’s disease. The research is multidisciplinary and has a strong and successful focus on the development of novel radioligands. A significant proportion of the research and development has been run in the form of industrial collaborations.

Your mission

During 2021, the PET facilities will move into new and optimized buildings at the Karolinska University Hospital. To secure succession we now seek an experienced researcher within molecular PET. The position is ideal for a competitive researcher that can lead a strong research group. The position holder is expected to run research at the international forefront and to take part in graduate and postgraduate education programs.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for employment as Professor the applicant must have demonstrated both research and teaching expertise, as well as management, development and collaborative skills (see the instructions regarding the Appointment Procedure for Teachers at Karolinska Institutet).
To be eligible, the applicant must have documented experience of conducting international competitive clinical research within the field of molecular PET as well as having obtained research funding in competition within this field. The applicant must also have very good knowledge of speaking and writing in English.

Assessment criteria

The Professorship has a focus on research. The assessment will weight qualifications as follows: research expertise (3), educational expertise (1), leadership, development and collaboration expertise (2) and clinical expertise (2).

It is a merit if you are a licensed physician, preferably specialized in psychiatry, nuclear medicine or neurology. If this competence exists, the position can potentially be converted to a professorship combined with suitable clinical employment. It is also of merit to have well established national and international collaborations within molecular PET and disorders of the central nervous system. Good pedagogical experience for various forms of teaching at first-, second- and third-cycle levels as well as experience of individual supervision of degree projects, doctoral and postdoctoral students is meritorious. Education in, and experience of academic leadership is also a merit.

The applicant shall also have completed courses of 10 weeks of higher education training in teaching (or have equivalent competence) in accordance with the Association of Swedish Higher Education Institutions recommendations for qualification as a higher education teacher. If the person appointed for the position is lacking such education at the time of the employment, the appointee must undergo such education during the first two years of employment.

After an overall assessment of the expertise and merits of the candidates, Karolinska Institutet will judge which of the candidates that has the best potential to contribute to a positive development of the activities at KI.
