Consent Preferences 4 Post-Doctoral Fellowships -Max Planck Institute for Research on Collective Goods – Scholar Idea

The Experimental Economics Group (led by Prof. Matthias Sutter) at the Max Planck Institute for Research on Collective Goods in Bonn invites applications for 4 full-time Senior Research Fellowship (post-doctoral fellowship) openings for candidates who already hold a PhD or are close to completing a PhD in economics or related fields. The fellowships are for up to 6 years (usually 2 times 3-year contracts) (Post-Doc, 100% TVöd E14).

The “Experimental Economics Group” was founded in October, 2017. It focuses on using experimental methods – both in the lab and increasingly in the field – to study a broad variety of questions that are relevant for society. Among many other important topics (like on the effects of scarcity on economic decision making, or the measurement of economic preferences), the following research areas feature prominently in the work of the group. First, the group studies how economic preferences develop in childhood and adolescence, and more generally in families. This area includes investigating the factors that determine the economic preferences of young people, and devising interventions to shape behavior in a way that promotes success in life. Second, the group focuses on how fairness concerns, social norms or image concerns promote efficient social interactions. Here, the group concentrates on understanding the role of fairness, honesty and other determinants as a prerequisite for mutually beneficial social interactions.

About positions

The successful candidates will hold a PhD in economics or a related field or are about to defend a PhD soon. Candidates with a strong interest in behavioral and experimental work are particularly encouraged to apply, but we are also very open to candidates with excellent skills in data analysis (but little experience in behavioral and experimental work). These positions do not involve any teaching requirement. Post-doctoral fellows at the Max Planck Institute for Research on Collective Goods are entitled to an annual individual research budget.

Duration

The positions are based on 3-year fixed term contracts that can be renewed once (implying that the maximum duration of the positions is 6 years). The starting date of the positions is expected to be in 2022, with details being negotiable. A subcontract concerning the period before the actual start date as a Post-doc may be available for eligible candidates who have not yet completed their PhD but are close to completion.

Salary and other benefits

These positions are paid according to TVöD Bund pay group 14 (100%).
