Consent Preferences Research Engineer | Proteomics and Mass Spectrometry – Scholar Idea

The Max Planck Institute of Immunobiology and Epigenetics in Freiburg (Germany) has an opening for a Research Engineer (m/f/d) in Proteomics and Mass Spectrometry for an initial period of two years.

The position will be available in the proteomics unit of Dr. Gerhard Mittler.

The Max Planck Institute of Immunobiology and Epigenetics (MPI-IE) in Freiburg, Germany is an interdisciplinary research institution that conducts basic research in two key areas of modern biology: Immunobiology and Epigenetics. Central questions address the molecular basis of cell type identities, as they are regulated during immune cell differentiation, metabolic response and epigenetic chromatin adaptation.

Your tasks:

Are you an experienced chemical or biotechnology engineer, protein (bio)-chemist or mass spectrometrist looking for a job beyond routine operation?
We are seeking a dedicated, diligent and highly motivated team member. The successful candidate will work to monitor instrument health & performance (QC experiments) and improve our pipelines. Furthermore, you will explore novel and apply established proteomics methodologies for protein and PTM identification/quantification. The latter will include label-free (DDA & DIA LFQ) and isotope labeling (SILAC, TMT, SureQuant) based approaches as well as targeted MS (PRM). Notably, the ideal candidate will conduct standardized workflows for proteomics data analysis (adapted to each dataset and biological query) and contribute to their application in service and collaboration.

Your qualifications:

You hold an MSc degree in chemistry or biosciences or have been comparably educated with at least three years of training and hands-on expertise in mass spectrometry and proteomics technologies. You are familiar with sample preparation as well as LC-MS setup, maintenance, troubleshooting and operations including MS data processing/interpretation. Advanced knowledge in quantitative and statistical analysis is considered as an asset. In addition, basic knowledge in bioinformatics (scripting/programming) is highly desirable. We expect a high degree of independent working, analytical reasoning and excellent communication skills in English. Your scientific excellence enables you to successfully contribute to projects in a team setting and handle multiple tasks without compromising quality.

We offer:

Located in a region that connects Germany, France and Switzerland, our institute offers an international research environment with outstanding infrastructure facilities and a positive working atmosphere that places a high value on work-life balance.
