| Position Summary | The Department of Visual Arts in the Faculty of Media, Art, and Performance at the University of Regina invites applications for a tenure-track position in Studio Art, at the rank of Assistant Professor, commencing July 1st 2022. Joining a dynamic team of artists and scholars, the Department seeks a contemporary visual artist to teach painting, drawing, and professional practices. The Department of Visual Arts is a comprehensive program with majors specializing in ceramics, drawing, painting, photo-media, print-media, sculpture, art history, and cultures of display. The Department is located within the Faculty of Media, Art, and Performance (MAP) where members engage in disciplinary, cross-disciplinary, and collaborative work within the Department, Faculty, and University. Visual Arts faculty include studio and performance artists, art historians, and curators who actively disseminate their work locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally. The Department offers BFA, BA, BA (Honours), MA and MFA degrees, special programs for Arts Education majors, and certificate programs. MAP also offers an interdisciplinary PhD in Media and Artistic Practices. The University of Regina is located in the heart of a vibrant, and increasingly diverse, mid-sized city in the center of the beautiful Canadian prairies on Treaty 4 Territory. The University has a student population of 16,000+ and is home to 10 faculties, including a multitude of academic departments and program areas. These units have established national and international reputations for excellence and innovative programs leading to bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees. MAP is home to the IMP Lab (Interactive Media and Performance), the VOICE Lab (Vocally Oriented Investigations in Creative Expression), arts institutions, such as the MacKenzie Art Gallery, Regina Symphony Orchestra, Sâkêwêwak Artist Collective, Dunlop Art Gallery, Art Gallery of Regina, Regina Public Library, Neutral Ground, New Dance Horizons, Saskatchewan Film Pool, and Common Weal, among others. MAP has numerous international partnership universities, with many innovative mobility initiatives for both faculty and students in Mexico City and the UK, among other locations. | Position Requirements | Requirements Candidates must hold at minimum an MFA, have an active established professional practice, and have prior experience teaching visual arts at the post-secondary level. The successful applicant will be qualified to teach undergraduate courses in painting and drawing at all levels, from foundations to senior undergraduate, professional practices, and contribute to graduate teaching and supervision. The successful candidate will also demonstrate their desire and willingness to make administrative contributions to the Department, Faculty, and University, attract graduate students, and be part of creating new initiatives and vision in a collaborative manner.
