Consent Preferences Postdoctoral Fellow in Time-Domain Astronomy – Scholar Idea

The Department of Astronomy at Stockholm University has around 80 employees. The main research areas are Supernovae, Computational Astrophysics, Galaxies, Solar Physics, and Planet and Star Formation. The Department of Astronomy is situated at the AlbaNova Science Centre in Stockholm, together with the Department of Physics, the Physics Departments at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), and the Nordic Institute for Theoretical Physics (Nordita), providing a vibrant international research environment. The Department is part of the Oskar Klein Centre for Cosmoparticle Physics, www.okc.albanova.se/.

Project description
The successful applicant will lead and be engaged in multiple active projects concerning the explosion mechanisms, progenitor stars, and environments of exotic transients, including but not limited to superluminous supernovae. 

Main responsibilities
The group is currently actively involved in the identification, follow-up and analysis of interesting transients in the Zwicky Transient Facility, as well as preparing for participation in the next-generation Legacy Survey of Space and Time at Rubin Observatory. We are also members of the ePESSTO+ and ENGRAVE collaborations. Desirable skills include general familiarity with analysis of optical/UV/IR imaging and spectroscopy; experience working with time-domain surveys; and/or a background in simulations or modeling of transients. There will also be opportunities to interact and collaborate with the wider supernova research community at both the Department and the larger Oskar Klein Centre. 

Qualification requirements
Postdoctoral positions are appointed primarily for purposes of research. Applicants are expected to hold a Swedish doctoral degree or an equivalent degree from another country.

Assessment criteria
The degree should have been completed no more than three years before the deadline for applications. An older degree may be acceptable under special circumstances, which may involve sick leave, parental leave, clinical attachment, elected positions in trade unions, or similar.

In the appointment process, special attention will be given to research skills. 

Terms of employment
The position involves full-time employment for a maximum of two years, with the possibility of extension under special circumstances. Start date 2022-09-01, though both earlier and later start dates are possible as per agreement..
