In the Institute IFOX at HZB, we work on functional oxide thin films and nanostructures combined with semiconductors for nanoelectronics and neuromorphic applications. We focus on material synthesis, detailed structural characterization using advanced methods, transport and optical properties in different types of materials and devices and finally on their integration on CMOS chips. A strong activity of the Institute is devoted to thin film and heterostructure deposition by molecular beam epitaxy and by atomic layer deposition.
We are looking for an engineer who will be responsible for the growth of thin films by atomic layer deposition. One equipment consists of a 200mm-cluster tool comprising an ALD chamber and two reactive ion chambers. Another equipment will be installed in 2022. The engineer will be responsible for setting up the new ALD chamber. Besides the technical maintenance, the engineer will run processes and develop new ones to push the state of the art in the field of functional oxides and oxinitrides with controlled properties. The engineer will also be responsible for upgrading the ALD deposition tools, and designing custom-made ones for responding to particular needs for new materials.
Your tasks
- You take over the projekt management and responsibility for the operation and maintenance of an existing atomic layer deposition / reactive ion etching cluster tool
- You coordinate and manage the implementation of a new atomic layer deposition equipment and take part in the technical discussions with the equipment supplier
- You take responsibility for the ALD laboratories, including occupational safety, fire protection, and all security-related matters. You train new users.
- You perform deposition of thin films by ALD and you develop new ALD and plasma-based processes and participate to the characterization of the deposited materials
- You document the processes by written reports
- You develop concepts for upgrades or modification of the deposition tools and take responsibility for implementing them
Your profile
- Master or Engineer studies in fields such as electrical engineering, or micro-technics or mechanical engineering or materials science engineering or Bachelor with a minimum of 5-year experience)
- Mandatory experience (minimum 2 years) in thin film deposition
- Mandatory experience in high vacuum technologies
- Experience in characterization methods (microscopies or X-ray diffraction) is a plus
- Ability to analyze and synthesize data/problems, rigorous and detailed-oriented
- Ability to work independently and to take initiatives
- Ability to search for new solutions in relation to the literature
- Computer programming skills in at least one language (Python, MathLab, LabView…)
- Mandatory written and spoken skills in technical English (English is the working language in the Institute)
- Team-oriented spirit
