The Sydney School of Education and Social Work in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences is seeking an Associate Professor of Educational Leadership who can demonstrate a critical approach to educational leadership research and a deep understanding of educational practice informed by their experiences working with, for example, educational leaders and policy makers. They will have a well-established research program and record of publication in educational leadership focusing on contemporary challenges faced by educational leaders working in complex and changing settings.
Our academics and professional staff prepare educators and social workers to contribute to solving the grand challenges faced by our planet and its peoples. More than 3000 students undertake our coursework programs, and a further 200 are engaged in higher degree research.
Our graduates have the capacity and knowledge to interpret and respond to complex and changing contexts by deploying practical, critical, hopeful, and research-informed repertoires of professional practice. In this they are supported by experienced teams of academic educators who are experts in their fields, at the leading edge of contemporary policy and practice.
We are internationally recognised for our research excellence in a comprehensive suite of critical topics in education and social work, with a particular emphasis on questions of equity and social justice. Our research supports innovative and exemplary practice in early learning centres, schools, community organisations, government departments, and other workplaces where educators and social workers are located.
We are committed to the preservation of First Nations languages, education and community engagement, alongside their knowledges, practices and perspectives and to other specialist studies in education and social work such as special and inclusive education, community development and wellbeing. This commitment is reflected in our practice, programs and in our research.
We are home to several research centres including the Research Centre for Children and Families, the Centre for Educational Measurement and Assessment, the Centre for Creativity Research, and the Sydney Institute of Community Languages.
Your key responsibilities will be to:
- further develop the research capacity and productivity of the educational leadership program
- Lead and enhance the competitive funding profile of educational leadership through mentoring and partnerships
- provide leadership in international scholarship through original, innovative and distinguished research
- engage in a collaborative, interdisciplinary approach to theory, policy and practice
- design, teach, assess, and coordinate postgraduate and undergraduate units of study and contribute to innovation in the design and delivery of award and non-award programs
- contribute to the ongoing qualitative review and improvement of educational leadership curricula within the School/Faculty which enhance the University’s standing as a national leader in education
- contribute to student research supervision, including research higher degree students to successful completion
- consolidate and further develop community engagement and partnerships
- contribute to research, education and academic administration in the School
- contribute to a positive workplace culture within the School/ Faculty in which diversity of thought, contribution, collaboration, excellence and achieving outcomes are valued and enabled and interacts with students, staff and other members of the University community in a professional, collegial and respectful manner
About you
- PhD or equivalent research doctorate in a relevant field of study
- professional qualification in education, extensive practice experience in educational leadership
- recognised as a leading authority in scholarship, research and teaching in educational leadership, with distinction at national and international levels
- outstanding, original and innovative contribution to research and scholarship in educational leadership demonstrating engagement in publication, scholarly dissemination and research income generation
- demonstrated experience developing strong educational leadership research teams and networks
- track record of successful research student supervision
- extensive teaching experience demonstrating original contributions and a commitment to curriculum design, innovative pedagogy with evidence of improved outcomes
- commitment and contribution to collaboration and collegiality demonstrated in research leadership and research and academic mentoring
- demonstrated capacity to contribute to public commentary on educational leadership and policy, along with a proven record of achievement and award in the development of professional partnerships with stakeholders
