A full-time permanent position as laboratory engineer (principal engineer / head engineer – avdelingsingeniør / overingeniør in Norwegian) is available at the Division of Biochemistry, Department of Molecular Medicine, Institute of Basic Medical Sciences, University of Oslo.The position is associated with the group of associate professor Coen Campsteijn.

Work tasks

The Campsteijn lab seeks a highly motivated laboratory engineer. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and maintaining lab infrastructure and for supporting ongoing research activities. In addition, the candidate will be expected to establish novel techniques and to contribute to the development of research avenues that expand the research portfolio of the lab.

The Campsteijn group focuses on nuclear envelope dynamics in healthy cells, under pathological conditions and upon biomechanical stress. We draw on extensive experience using mechanistic cell biology to study nuclear dynamics and integrity, genome stability and biology, in a range of (cancer) cell models. Local research infrastructure includes a well-equipped laboratory and access to advanced (live-cell) microscopy, genetics and proteomics facilities, amongst others.

Qualification requirements

  • Minimum B.Sc. degree in molecular cell biology, biochemistry or equivalent
  • Experience with relevant techniques will be a advantage. These include
    • Mammalian cell culture and manipulations
    • Confocal and live-cell microscopy
    • Fundamental molecular biology DNA and protein techniques
    • Genetic modification of cell lines using CRISPR/Cas9 and/or lentiviral transduction
  • Motivation and enthusiasm to integrate and work in a versatile and ambitious research group
  • The ability to establish novel techniques and troubleshoot experimental challenges
  • Excellent communication skills, including proficiency in spoken and written English

The ideal candidate will be a committed person who can work in a structured and effective manner in a fast-paced work environment. The candidate should be solution-oriented and able to work independently. The candidate must be flexible with regard to work assignments that range from managing lab infrastructure to developing research projects. The candidate should therefore have excellent communication and collaborative skills.
