The appointment is a fulltime position and is made for a period of up to four years (25 % of which is devoted to required duties, usually in the form of teaching activities).
Starting date for the position is expected to be no later than 01.10.2022.
The Department of Geosciences seeks a highly motivated hydrogeologist that can enrich and strengthen the Department’s focus on groundwater processes. The successful candidate can define own projects, but will also contribute to existing projects that involve modelling flow processes in porous media as well as fractured rock aquifers. Besides flow in aquifer systems and groundwater as a component in the hydrological cycle, applied aspects related to contaminant and chemical tracer transport, engineering geology, geohazards (e.g. landslides) and geothermal energy are relevant fields of interest at the Department of Geosciences.
We seek a candidate with a good background in both quantitative methods and field experience, linking data, observations and modelling. These key qualifications form the basis for teaching and supervision of BSc/MSc students at the department.
The successful candidate shall contribute to teaching and supervision (25 % of working time). Relevant teaching topics mainly in hydrogeology (laboratory experiments, groundwater modelling with open source software, e.g. Modflow), along with field methods (e.g., piezometry, pumping test, groundwater chemical analyses, subsurface geophysics, borehole logging). Postdoctoral fellows who are appointed for a period of four years are expected to acquire basic pedagogical competency in the course of their fellowship period within the duty component of 25%.
The main purpose of the fellowship is to qualify researchers for work in higher academic positions within their disciplines.
Qualification requirements
The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences has a strategic ambition of being a leading research faculty. Candidates for these fellowships will be selected in accordance with this, and expected to be in the upper segment of their class with respect to academic credentials.
The following qualifications are required:
- Applicants must hold a degree equivalent to a Norwegian doctoral degree in Hydrogeology, Geosciences or related fields with a documented hydrogeology component. Doctoral dissertation must have been submitted for evaluation by the closing date. Appointment is dependent on the public defense of the doctoral thesis being approved.
- Documented experience in at least two of the following topics: soil and groundwater flow processes, transport modelling, field investigation methods, laboratory experiments of porous flow.
- Fluent oral and written communication skills in English is required, and competence in a Scandinavian language is an asset.
- Insight in soil and groundwater flow and transport modelling as well as experience with field investigation methods are considered as an asset.
