In the coming years, multi-billion investments will be made in large projects in Northern Sweden to create a fossil-free society both nationally and globally. Luleå University of Technology is involved in several of these cutting-edge research projects and in the societal transformation that they entail. We offer a broad range of courses and study programmes to match the skills in demand. We hope that you will help us to build the sustainable companies and societies of the future.

Luleå University of Technology is Sweden’s northernmost university and home to students, faculty and researchers from around the world. Our mission is to perform high quality research, educate students and share knowledge. Our vision is to shape the future through innovative education and ground-breaking research results. Our research and education covers a wide spectra including natural sciences and broad range of engineering subjects, as well as theatre and music arts, health, humanities, social sciences and education. We are experiencing strong growth and are developing leading competences in several areas of research.

The Department of Computer Science, Electrical and Space Engineering offers a dynamic and international environment for research and education in Space Engineering, Computer Science, Cyber-Physical Systems, Machine Learning, Electronics Systems, Signals and Systems and Digital Services and Systems. At our facilities we have a number of laboratories, including a shielded chamber for electromagnetic compatibility studies (EMC). To strengthen our research in the field of electronics design and measurement technology, we are now looking for a postdoctoral fellow for a two-year employment, with a possible extension to a third year.

Subject description
Electronics systems include electronics design, measurement technology and electromagnetic compatibility for control, monitoring and instrumentation of technical processes and systems, with close connection to applications and applied research.

Project description
You will participate in a research project focused on the development of sensor technology for ultrasonic imaging in biological materials using piezoelectric micromachined ultrasonic transducers, PMUTs. These MEMS devices can be built using e.g. technology available within the Europractice collaboration. The surrounding transmitting, receiving and signal processing electronics should, if possible, be integrated as an application-specific integrated circuit, ASIC. The goal is to integrate, miniaturize and optimize the technology with regard to imaging performance, construction volume and energy consumption. The workplace will be the Division for Electronics Systems and in collaboration and contact with the Division for Signal Processing. The holder of the position can be given the opportunity to develop their own research ideas within the framework of the project.

Duties
Our research group is in an expansive phase and we are looking for a new colleague who is interested in joining our group. The work as postdoctoral fellow mainly involves research but teaching and supervision of students as well as participation in grant proposals for new research projects will be included in the tasks, up to a maximum of 20% of the yearly working hours.

Qualifications
The employment as postdoctoral fellow constitutes a career-development position for junior researchers and therefore, in first instance, the applicant should be considered for employment that has completed a doctoral degree no more than three years before the end of the application period. Candidates who have been awarded a doctoral degree at an earlier date may also be considered if there are special grounds, for example, different types of statutory leave of absence.

To be eligible, you must hold a doctoral degree, or a foreign degree equivalent to a doctoral degree, in electrical engineering or closely related subjects with a focus on electronics design, micromechanical systems and integrated circuits or similar. You must be fluent in English, both orally and in writing. Experience in ultrasound technology or biomedical engineering as well as experience from laboratory work in electronics or measurement systems is an advantage.

Further information
Full-time fixed term employment for two years, with the possibility to one additional year. Placement in Luleå.
