Lecturer in Cognitive Psychology focused on teaching in the field of cognitive psychology, neighbouring fields include experimental psychology
The Faculty of Behavioural and Social Sciences of the University of Groningen invites applicants for a 0.9 FTE position as Lecturer (Docent) in Cognitive Psychology for a fixed term of one year. This position will be located in the unit Experimental Psychology (see https://www.rug.nl/(…)rimental-psychology/). The position is focused on teaching in the field of cognitive psychology. At our unit, neighbouring fields include experimental psychology, (computational) cognitive science, and cognitive neuroscience. The candidate is expected to teach primarily in the English and Dutch tracks of the bachelor programme of Psychology. Furthermore, the candidate may supervise small groups of students, for instance in the context of a bachelor thesis or research practical. In addition to these tasks, the candidate gets to spend 10% of the working hours on research.
Qualifications
- a completed MSc and/or PhD in cognitive psychology, (computational) cognitive science, or cognitive neuroscience, or related fields
- a relevant publication record in international scientific journals
- interest and experience in teaching (qualifications like the University Teaching Qualification are a plus)
- the ability to communicate and teach in English and Dutch
- excellent social and communicative skills and ability to work in groups
- important competencies are analytical skills, environment orientation, presenting and result orientation.

Our Faculty of Behavioural and Social Sciences is a centre of knowledge focusing on individuals and society. We study issues relating to human behaviour, and the relationships between people and society as a whole. This includes the study of how people function under normal circumstances, but also of the problems encountered by individuals or groups, and how to resolve or prevent these. Our Faculty employs about 650 employees.
The Department of Psychology is part of our faculty and we offer bachelor’s and master’s programs in both Dutch and English to over 3,000 students. Our department’s student population is very international; more than half of our students are non-Dutch. The Experimental Psychology group pursues a research program focused on the cognitive underpinnings of human behaviour, as well as their neurophysiological correlates. Our group is growing strongly due to recent successes in (inter)national research grant competitions. We teach not only in the Psychology Bachelor program, but also in the top-rated Behavioural and Cognitive Neurosciences (BCN) Research Master, the Computational Cognitive Science Master, and the Applied Cognitive Neuroscience Master.
Conditions of employment
We offer you in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities:
- a salary, depending on qualifications and work experience, with a minimum of € 2,846 to a maximum of € 4,490 (salary scale 10) gross per month for a full-time position
- excluding 8% holiday allowance and an 8.3% year-end bonus, participation in a pension scheme for employees and excellent secondary benefits. We offer 232 holiday hours per calendar year for a full-time employment
- an appointment of 0.9 FTE on a temporary basis for one year.
The appointee will ideally commence on 1 August 2022
