Position as Researcher in Computational Chemistry ia available at the Hylleraas Centre for Quantum Molecular Sciences, Department of Chemistry.

The position is for a period of 1 year. Starting date is 1. October 2022.

A one-year researcher position is open as a part of the NordCO2 Nordic University Hub funded by NordForsk in 2018 (project number: 85378). The Nordic Consortium for CO2 Conversion (NordCO2) is a network for Nordic researchers working on chemical CO2 conversion reactions in the Nordic countries. The consortium unites 9 universities from 5 Nordic countries (Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Iceland, and Finland). The work of the consortium is divided into 4 work packages (WPs): Research, Training, Outreach, and Innovation. The position open at the Hylleraas Centre is expected to contribute at the Research (90%) and Innovation (10%) WPs.

The researcher will work to strengthen the collaborations of Ainara Nova, PI at the Hylleraas Centre, with other members of the NordCO2 consortium. In particular, the researcher will participate in the project initiated with Prof. Egill Skúlason (University of Iceland), in which DFT methods are used to study the reactivity of metal nanoparticles (NPs) encapsulated in metal-organic frameworks (MOFs). The researcher will also participate in PhD students’ supervision working in the design and reactivity of single-site catalysts for CO2 reduction processes in collaboration with the groups of Profs. Skrydstrup and Daasbjerg (Aarhus University, Denmark), and Martín-Matute (University of Stockholm, Sweden). The researcher will contribute to the Innovation WP by participating in activities to promote networking between the NordCO2 students and industry.

The fellowship is based at the Hylleraas Centre for Quantum Molecular Sciences.

The Hylleraas Centre for Molecular Science is a Centre of Excellence funded by the Research Council of Norway in 2017. The Centre has approximately 60 members working in six research themes (RTs): 1) Electronic Structure, 2) Multiscale Modelling, 3) Spectroscopic Processes, 4) Extreme Environments, 5) Chemical Transformations, and 6) Multiphase Systems.

Qualification requirements

The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences has the strategic ambition of being a leading research faculty. Candidates for these fellowships will be selected in accordance with this ambition, and are expected to be in the upper segment of their class with respect to academic credentials.

  • Applicants must hold a degree equivalent to a Norwegian doctoral degree in chemistry, material science, or physics. The Doctoral thesis must be approved by the time of application. Only applicants with an approved doctoral thesis and public defence are eligible for appointment
  • Documented experience with periodic DFT calculations and AIMD simulations are required
  • Experience using CP2K and/or Materials Studio is desired
  • Experience in the modeling of catalytic processes, MOFs, as well as programming, will weigh positively in the assessment and ranking of applicants
  • Knowledge in characterization technics and experience in the simulation of spectroscopic data will be beneficial
  • Fluent oral and written communication skills in English are required
