Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor in organic chemistry declared vacant at the Department of Molecular Sciences, SLU, Uppsala.
A position as an Associate Professor (university senior lecturer) in organic chemistry is declared vacant at the Department of Molecular Sciences, SLU, Uppsala.
Together with the Departments of Forest Mycology and Plant Pathology, Plant Biology, and of Aquatic Resources, the Department of Molecular Sciences forms an inspiring research environment at the BioCenter on the Ultuna campus in Uppsala. At the Center, there is expertise in chemistry, biotechnology, plant biology, mycology, plant pathology, microbiology, food science, computational genetics and aquatic ecology as well as strong infrastructure such as plant cultivation facilities, advanced microscopy and molecular biology, X-ray diffraction, mass spectrometry and NMR spectroscopy. The Department of Molecular Sciences conducts research and teaching in inorganic, physical and organic chemistry, biochemistry, natural product chemistry, food science and microbiology. Exciting research projects are conducted in collaboration with other research groups and with the industry in areas such as plant metabolomics, searching for new antibiotics from the plant kingdom, early diagnosis of diseases with a focus on their connection to diet, and mechanisms behind the action of antiviral drugs.
The department has a comprehensive teaching assignment in the subjects of chemistry, food science and microbiology at both undergraduate and advanced level as well as postgraduate education. Teaching takes place largely in bachelor’s and master’s programs that can lead to an agronomy degree, but also in several other programs.
BioCenter is part of the Faculty of Natural Resources and Agricultural Science (NJ), which conducts research, teaching and environmental analysis in agriculture and the environment in the view of Agenda 2030 and the UN’s goals for sustainable development. The location at SLU means access to an attractive research environment with a unique breadth and thereby the opportunity for multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary collaborations with research groups in other disciplines such as technology and social sciences.
