Assistant/Associate Professor in Game Design and Development

At Purdue University, the Department of Computer Graphics Technology (CGT) is one of six units in the Purdue Polytechnic Institute. It offers a BS and a MS in Computer Graphics Technology, and participates in the Polytechnic Institute PhD program. The Department of Computer Graphics Technology at Purdue University is seeking to fill multiple tenure-track positions on the West Lafayette, Indiana campus, beginning in August 2021.  The Department of Computer Graphics Technology at Purdue University (CGT) invites applications for one tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant/Associate Professor levels in the area of Game Design and Development. We are a research-intensive department focused on applied research informed by close engagement with the games industry. Our program is technically oriented with post-graduation student placement primarily in the domains of programming, technical art, technical animation, and technical direction. Our alumni work successfully in the highest echelons of the games and animation industries.

Qualifications:

An earned PhD in a field related to games development and design. Focus areas may include: computer science, computer graphics, information science, computer engineering, technology, game design, or other related disciplines completed by August 1, 2022. Applicants are expected to demonstrate evidence of strong research potential via publications in top games and graphics academic venues and a clear research agenda. Applicants must also demonstrate skills in producing and teaching some combination of programming (e.g., graphics/engine/systems/game AI programming), simulation (e.g., physics-based systems or crowd simulation), real-time VFX, or game development (e.g., gameplay systems and dynamic ambient content).

Job Description:

The faculty member will support the undergraduate majors in Game Development & Design, Animation, and Visual Effects, advise doctoral and master-level students, develop and implement an actively funded research program, and provide service and engagement work with the games industry.

Duties:

Commitment to scholarly activity and the building of an active research program are required. Specific duties include but are not limited to implementing active learning group-based pedagogies, regular publication of research findings, supporting research through external funding, teaching and developing graduate and undergraduate courses, graduate student mentoring, contributing to the success of the Games program through frequent positive collaboration with faculty colleagues, and helping students develop the competencies required to work in the games industry.
