Job Summary

The Purdue Applied Research Institute is seeking a Senior Director for the Hypersonics Advanced Manufacturing Technology Center (HAMTC) to manage all major project efforts connected to and supported by HAMTC.  Serving in a leadership capacity, this individual will work the project principal investigators (PIs), internal/external technical team, project manager to oversee and lead project timelines, deliverables, budget, troubleshoot concerns and issues while anticipating and communicating next steps. Throughout processes, the individual in this role must have a keen awareness of technical direction, budget, goals, and constraints and manage project needs with fiscal responsibility. This person will interface and liaise with external partners, stakeholders, project sponsors and campus partners that are invested in the outcomes of the project effort.  This individual will identify, create, and secure funding for additional projects in accordance with the strategic visions of PARI and HAMTC.  

Serve in a chief leadership role within the HAMTC, collaborating closely with the primary PI to determine vision and strategy, and execute center objectives. Act as the primary point of contact and representative for the center, overseeing all day-to-day operations. Foster and maintain productive relationships with stakeholders and partners. Provide strategic advice to PIs, technical teams, and project manager.

Required:

  • For full consideration, a cover letter is a requirement for this position
  • Must be able to obtain a Department of Defense Secret Security Clearance
  • Master’s Degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Materials, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering–and/or related field
  • Five (5) to seven (7) years of experience in project management or related field, including people leadership experience
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills 
  • Technical skills that translate into successful track record of research and development projects
  • Ability to prioritize and delegate work to meet deadlines
  • Ability to work under pressure and produce high-quality work with attention to detail
  • Must be flexible and adaptive to change

Preferred:

  • Ph.D. in Aerospace, Mechanical, Materials, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering–and/or related field
