About the position
The Centre for Molecular Medicine Norway (NCMM) is an international biomedical research centre translating basic medical research into clinical practice and contributing to the University of Oslo’s interdisciplinary focus on life sciences.
NCMM is now seeking outstanding candidates for the position of Communications Officer. The position is permanent and externally funded.
Communications at NCMM enhances national and international awareness of the vibrant molecular medicine research taking place at the Centre. We also collaborate closely with an extended national network of NCMM Associate Investigators as well as the Nordic EMBL Partnership for Molecular Medicine. A proactive strategy and implementation plan shapes and directs NCMM’s communication activities toward a range of stakeholders.
The position of Communications Officer encompasses both external and internal communications. In collaboration with the NCMM leadership, the Communications Officer develops and maintains the communications strategy. Furthermore, the Communications Officer builds on the already established communications activity, playing a central role in coordinating and driving all communications. The Communications Officer is expected to have a special interest in and ability to extract scientific information for public dissemination of medical research.
NCMM offers an engaging, dynamic and diverse working environment. The Communications Officer position is an independent role in a dynamic administrative team, and offers the opportunity to work with researchers who are at the forefront of basic and translational scientific research. The Communications Officer also interacts closely with the communication staff at the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Oslo, EMBL and within the Nordic EMBL Partnership. There is exposure to international communication, travel to Nordic countries and EMBL sites and support for developing a range of new skills.
Work tasks
The successful candidate will be a highly motivated and dedicated individual who can work creatively, independently, accurately and with a high work capacity. Day-to-day activities and responsibilities include:
- Building on and improving the existing communications strategy for NCMM
- Producing engaging written content to showcase NCMM’s research, including interviews and profiles of researchers, highlights of scientific publications, coverage of events and other news of interest as well as the annual report.
- Coordinating photo and video shoots for the annual report and institute promotional videos
- Managing content and growing the NCMM website and social media channels (LinkedIn, Twitter). The website is part of the UiO system, and system-wide support is available.
- Identifying opportunities for profiling NCMM and the Nordic EMBL Partnership in relevant media/publications in collaboration with the Partnership Communication Director.
- Participating in and coordinating regular meetings and events as well as liaising, meeting and networking with national collaborators and with people from across the Partnership
- Supporting researchers with science communication, outreach and public engagement
Qualification requirements
Essential:
- Education from university or college, minimum equivalent a master level within the fields of natural sciences or medicine. A PhD degree in scientifically similarly relevant areas is highly valued. Experience from similar work can replace this formal requirement.
- Experience in communication, marketing, journalism, PR or similar
- Experience with content management systems
- Experience writing for the web, including social media
- Fluent written and spoken English
- Confident, enthusiastic, resourceful and diplomatic
- Passion for translating complex information and ideas into engaging content
- Evidence of being able to work independently, using one’s own initiative
- Strong organisational and project management skills
- Self-motivated, looking for a challenge and ready to make an immediate impact
Desirable:
- Written and spoken knowledge of one Scandinavian language
- A background in science or technology (preferably on a PhD level)
- Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud
- Experience devising and implementing successful communication strategies
We offer
The successful candidate for the position will be offered a permanent contract on external funding. This is due to the financing of NCMM itself, being a joint venture between the University of Oslo, the Research Council of Norway and South-Eastern Norway Regional Health Authority.
The position will be included in the Norwegian health insurance and retirement pension schemes and placed either as SKO (Position Code) 1434 Advisor or SKO (Position Code) 1364 Senior advisor. The hired person will get a position according to the experience and qualifications held. For a senior advisor there is a much higher expectation to the ability to perform major tasks independently, and also the possibility to lead smaller projects.
The salary level will for SKO 1434 be within the start range of 499 500 – 599 000 NOK per year, while SKO 1364 will have a range of 543 500 – 637 900 NOK per year. Salary is decided by individual assessment, depending on qualifications and experience.
