The Department of Plant Breeding, at SLU in Alnarp, works with research, education and innovation work. Subject area
The subject of the position is biology with a focus on plant biochemistry and its applications in biologically relevant areas. It includes the use of biochemistry and molecular biology research to better understand qualitative and quantitative aspects of plant physiology and plant storage products.
Duties
The senior lecturer shall within the subject:
- develop, lead, and conduct internationally successful research
- develop, lead, and conduct teaching and examination on basic level and advanced
level - actively conduct supervision of doctoral students in postgraduate subjects that
include plant biochemistry - actively seek national and international research funding in competition and publish
peer-reviewed scientific papers - conduct research-based collaboration with researchers within and external to SLU.
- communicate research results and contribute with relevant knowledge to the
surrounding society - contribute to SLU sustainable development goal of sustainable agriculture
production - contribute to the faculty’s strategic development through administrative tasks within
the subject area, the department and the faculty
Qualifications
The applicant shall:
- have a PhD in a relevant subject for the appointment, e.g. biology, plant
biochemistry, molecular biology - be scientifically skilled within the subject of the appointment and have demonstrated
the ability to obtain external research funds in competition - have a record of publishing theirs research in for the subject high quality journals at
an international level - have demonstrated pedagogical skill in teaching at basic level and advanced level
including supervision at university level - have experience of research collaboration
- have undergone university pedagogical training of at least 10 weeks of full-time
studies or otherwise acquired equivalent knowledge
The department has a bilingual work environment. The lecturer will be able to carry out most of his tasks in English. However, as the university is Swedishspeaking, the holder is expected to be able to work and teach in Swedish within four years of taking up employment. The institution will support the holder to achieve this.
Assessment criteria
The assessment criteria for this appointment will be based primarily on the degree to which the applicant possesses the required qualifications specified for the position.
When assessing scientific skills, the following will be taken into account:
- ability to independently initiate and lead innovative research, especially within the
current research area - ability to obtain external research funding in competition
- ability to publish in scientific journals or books
When assessing teaching skills, the following will be taken into account:
- ability to plan, conduct, and evaluate teaching.
- ability to integrate research and a scientific approach in teaching.
- experience in supervising doctoral students and examining students.
When assessing other skills, the following will be taken into account:
- ability to develop and lead scientific activities and personnel at university level
- ability to collaborate, communicate and cooperate with relevant stakeholders and the
surrounding society - ability to communicate ongoing research- and development work
In assessing the candidate’s qualifications, equal consideration will be given to teaching andresearch skills.
After the assessment criteria, personal characteristics and personal suitability will also be taken into account.
