CRC 1371 (Speaker Prof. Dr. Dirk Haller) focuses on the digestive tract and proposes an interdisciplinary approach to elucidate the functional relevance of microbiome signatures in the context of inflammation and cancer. Research at the chair of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology focuses mainly on proteases. They are of crucial importance for the development and diagnosis of numerous diseases, for example diseases of the digestive system. A special group of proteases is active in the membrane of body cells and is involved, for example, in the development of Alzheimer’s disease, infection with hepatitis viruses or malaria. We are looking for a motivated Ph.D. student to develop a novel method for the simultaneous selection of solvents and process conditions based on reinforcement machine learning. The method is developed using three examples of applications from our group’s other project: plastic recycling, CO2 capture, and product recovery in a biotechnological fermentation process. Ph.D. Student (f/m/d) Conceptual design of an electrochemical reactor for the sustainable production of C1 chemicals
We are looking for a motivated Ph.D. student interested in developing novel processes that boost the production of bio-based liquid fuels and other chemicals through electrical energy supplied to electrochemical / electro-biotechnological reactor concepts. Such concepts aim at replacing fossil raw materials in value-added chains. The advertised position is part of a large cooperation project with partners from industry and academia. The candidate will measure and model data on the reaction kinetics and mass transfer in reactive chemical systems. A reactor concept is developed with two other research groups at the TUM Campus Straubing who specialize in electrochemical processes. The final goal is to build a demonstrator on the mini-plant scale.

In the department of gastroenterology at Klinikum rechts der Isar we sample human material to facilitate translational research approaches within CRC 1371. In this setting, we routinely collect endoscopic samples, which can serve as valuable source for intestinal organoids. The open position is designed to recruit a highly motivated, skilled and responsible post doctoral research fellow to establish an organoid biobank of representative gastrointestinal diseases with subsequent initial steps of the characterization and functional analysis of human organoids. We currently look for a motivated HiWi-student in the area of bioinformatics/computational biology who contributes in a team effort to unravel the regulation of the human immune system in inflammatory diseases, organ transplantation and COVID-19 and to discover novel immune cell subsets and regulatory checkpoints that could be exploited for successful therapies and vaccination strategies. PostDoc (f/m/d) in aquatic eukaryotic microbial ecology
This position will be part of the DFG Emmy-Neother Junior Research Group “Ecology and Evolution of dark matter fungi in aquatic biofilms”. The aim of the research is to understand the fundamental ecology and evolution of the largely enigmatic group of aquatic fungi. By combining microdissection, high-throughput culturing, and molecular based single sequencing of genomes and transcripts, we generate extensive fungal reference data that serves as a key resource to discuss early fungal evolution and aquatic adaptations based on phylogenomics and fungal inter-actions.

An der Professur für Waldinventur und nachhaltige Nutzung ist zum 01.02.2023 eine Teilzeit-Stelle (TV-L E13, 65 %) als Wissenschaftliche/r Mitarbeiter/in (m/w/d) zu besetzen. Diese Stelle ist befristet bis 30.06.2025. Inhalt der Stelle ist die Bearbeitung eines durch das Bundesministerium für Ernährung und Landwirtschaft geförderten Projektes „FORECO“ im Rahmen einer Dissertation an der TU München. Ein neuer, risikosensitiver Mehrziel-Optimierungsansatz soll mit Monte-Carlo-Simulationen kombiniert (und weiterentwickelt) werden, um Extremereignisse und die Erholung des Waldes nach Störungen in eine umfassende Bewertung von Waldbewirtschaftungsalternativen zu integrieren. Der Ansatz besteht aus der Optimierung der Baumartenzusammensetzung und der Bewirtschaftung auf Bestandsebene, anschließenden Tests der Robustheit der Ökosystemleistungen verschiedener Waldalternativen unter dem Einfluss von Extremereignissen und einer Bewertung der Erholungsfähigkeit der Bestände (Geschwindigkeit der Erholung verschiedener Indikatoren für Ökosystemleistungen nach Störungen). Die optimierte Zusammensetzung und Bewirtschaftung der Bestände wird das Wissen über die Erholung der Bestände aus weiteren Projektteilen einbeziehen und dann robuste und widerstandsfähige Waldtypen als Input-Informationen für das prozessbasierte, dynamische vegetations-terrestrische Ökosystemmodell LPJ-GUESS liefern, um diese Alternativen auf größere räumliche Ebenen auszudehnen.

Inhalt der Stelle ist die Bearbeitung eines durch das Bayerische Staatsministerium für Ernährung, Landwirtschaft und Forsten geförderten Projektes „FeNEU: Ein innovatives Instrument für die forstliche Planung in Bayern zur besseren Berücksichtigung geänderter Waldaufbauformen, Biodiversität und Ökosystemleistungen“ im Rahmen einer Dissertation an der TU München. Im Rahmen des Projektes sollen vorhandene Auswertungsverfahren der Forsteinrichtung (mittelfristige Forstbetriebsplanung) überprüft und weiterentwickelt werden. Am Ende des Projektes sollen die neuen bzw. weiterentwickelten Ansätze und Methoden neben etablierten Methoden mit einer projektintern erstellten, primär auf Bayern angepassten Softwarelösung in einer ersten, grundlegenden Version, abgebildet werden können. Aufgrund des großen Bedarfs soll diese Version besonders auf die Verhältnisse des Körperschaftswaldes ausgerichtet sein.

The German Heart Center of the Free State of Bavaria associated to the Technical University of Munich is a clinic with international reputation and a state of the art technical and medical equipment. The Laboratory of cardiovascular inflammation at the Department of Cardiology is seeking a PhD student (m/f/d) The project aims to screen and validate potential therapeutic gene targets from findings of population genetic studies in large human cohorts including genome- and transcriptome- wide association studies (GWAS and TWAS). The screening will be conducted in cell lines or human induced pluripotent stem cell (hiPSC)-derived cells by advanced genome editing methods, such as CRISPR-based gene knockout, transcriptional activation, and direct-capture Perturb-seq. The validation and therapeutic evaluation will be performed in an atherosclerosis mouse model.

PhD position on Translational Metabolic Magnetic Resonance Imaging
The Department of Nuclear Medicine is seeking applications from highly motivated candidates for a PhD position in hyperpolarized 13C magnetic resonance imaging embedded within the multi-disciplinary BMBF consortium “Revolutionising Cancer Imaging by Quantum Technologies” (QuE-MRT). Über uns: Die Professur für Bauchemie (Prof. Dr. Plank) befasst sich mit Grundlagenforschung auf dem Gebiet der anorganischen Bindemittel und organischen Zusatzmittel. Die Professur ist breit aufgestellt und führt Forschungsarbeiten zu Zementchemie, Nanomaterialien, CO2-armen Bindemitteln, Polymerchemie (Synthese und Charakterisierung von Copolymeren wie z.B. Polycarboxylaethern) und grünen alternativen Zusatzmitteln sowie neuartigen energieerzeugenden Fußböden und der Gewinnung geothermischer Energie durch.
