The Saikawa lab in the Department of Environmental Sciences at Emory University is hiring a postdoctoral researcher to join the lab. We are interested in a researcher with a passion for environmental justice and having experience conducting community-engaged participatory research. Our work focuses on soil contamination, air pollution, and climate change. JOB DESCRIPTION: Helps design and conduct research within a specified field while receiving advanced training from a designated Principal Investigator to enhance professional skills and research independence needed for pursuit of a career. The specific area of research in which the trainee is mentored is determined by the department and laboratory of the Postdoc. Designs and evaluates experiments. ADDITIONAL JOB DETAILS: This position will be instrumental in driving projects in understanding and mitigating the current and possible future soil heavy metal and metalloid and other chemical contaminant exposure among children in the Westside of Atlanta. Key scientific questions will focus on understanding soil ingestion rates and exposure levels to lead (Pb) among children in specific age groups and provide comprehensive multimedia metrics for exposure assessments. The position will be supported by the new EPA STAR grant. There are many opportunities and resources for developing new projects and being a part of other projects related to the ongoing air pollution and climate change projects in the lab as well. Our work is interdisciplinary and for the EPA STAR grant project, there will be ample opportunities to work with researchers in the Gangarosa Department of Environmental Health (MPI Dana Barr) and in the School of Medicine (Co-I Ziad Kazzi) at Emory University, along with a community partner organization Historic Westside Gardens (Co-I Rosario Hernandez) and many other community members in the Westside of Atlanta. Our lab has worked in the neighborhood since 2018 and has conducted community-engaged participatory research. We found the contamination and it has led to the area becoming a Superfund site. This job is part of the Programs, Research & Innovation in Sexual Minority Health (PRISM Health) team in the Department of Epidemiology at the Rollins School of Public Health. PRISM Health’s work seeks to understand and improve the sexual health of sexual minority populations, with focus on HIV, mHealth, and adolescents and young adults; more information about PRISM Health is available at https://prismhealth.emory.edu. Job Summary: Postdoctoral Fellow to serve in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Emory University in the School of Medicine. EHVP provides clinical services to post-9/11 veterans and service members at no cost to the patient as part of the Warrior Care Network. Clinical duties include assessment of veterans referred to the EHVP and providing evidence-based treatments for posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, anxiety, SUD, and TBI. EHVP provides care in an outpatient setting and an innovative intensive outpatient program (IOP) in which veterans come from across the country to receive intensive therapy daily for two weeks. Another project is aimed at understanding the impacts of prenatal PFAS exposures on the placental multi-omics and whether these perturbations are associated with growth trajectories and metabolic programming. A postdoctoral position is available in the Rehabilitation and Applied Movement Performance Lab (ReAMP) directed by Dr. Mark Lyle, in the Emory School of Medicine Division of Physical Therapy. Research focus: Our lab is particularly interested in determining how and to what extent proprioceptive feedback from muscle spindles and Golgi tendon organs is modulated to meet unique task demands, and the extent to which the adaptive capacity to modulate proprioceptive feedback is influenced by injuries, aging and rehabilitation strategies (e.g. motor practice, targeted neuromodulation). Our efforts aim to improve the clinical management of locomotor deficits across healthy aging and in persons with neurological and musculoskeletal conditions, as well as applications to injury prevention strategies and surgical recovery after knee surgery. Active studies range from traditional neurophysiological studies in humans and quantitative movement analysis. Collaborations with Emory Sports Medicine are dedicated to improving outcomes after anterior crucitate liagment injury (e.g. probing sensorimotor mechanisms of poor quadriceps recovery) and identifying risk of reinjury. Responsibilities: The postdoctoral fellow will help with projects examining the functional role of proprioceptive feedback at rest and during locomotor tasks and possibly examine sensorimotor mechansims that influence strength recovery and functional use of the knee after knee surgery. Specific roles include coordinating and executing all phases of data collection, analysis, and dissemination. Professional development will be emphasized with opportunities for additional mentorship from colleagues and collaborators. Postdoctoral fellows are generally expected to function responsibly and autonomously within the school’s complex and decentralized environment. This position will entail coteaching two seminars each year with Professor Fineman, helping organize and conduct various workshops, and hosting visiting scholars from around the world. The ideal candidate for this position will have a strong interest in intellectual history and critical legal theory, particularly as developed in feminist and vulnerability theory scholarship. Pediatric Psychologist – Severe Behavior Program
Marcus Autism Center, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, and Emory University School of Medicine are conducting a search for an outstanding psychologist with specialization in pediatric psychology to provide clinical care and support in the Severe Behavior Program. Specifically, we are seeking a psychologist who will join our team of psychologists and BCBA-Ds in the Severe Behavior Program serving children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder or a related developmental disability. We are seeking applicants who will work in both the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and Outpatient Programs (OP). IOP provides behavioral intervention to children who engage in severe challenging behavior. Children seen in IOP attend 5-days/week, 5 hours/day for an average of 16 weeks. Each child is staffed at a 3:1 ratio, allowing for a high level of precision in the behavioral assessments and treatments conducted. The program also emphasizes caregiver training and development of socially valid interventions. A range of outpatient programs provide care to children who engage in mild to moderate challenging behavior. OP see patients once a week and focuses on caregiver training. Most OP services are provided for 12 weeks, but can be longer or shorter depending on how the child responds to treatment. We are looking for individuals who are interested in providing a high level of clinical care and who are interested in contributing to innovative assessment, treatment, and research activities. The psychologist will join a multidisciplinary treatment team that includes professionals from nursing, psychiatry and care coordination. Intervention focuses on the use of applied behavior analysis for the assessment and treatment of severe behavior problems. This position will support a clinical caseload that includes case management for patients in IOP, conducting evaluations, providing direct services through our outpatient clinics and supervision of psychology trainees. There will also be opportunities for independent and/or collaborative research – contributing to a research team that has several ongoing clinical trials, epidemiological studies, and single-case design studies underway. Successful candidates will be well-trained and should possess a PhD and be a Board Certified Behavior Analyst-Doctoral level (BCBA-D). Completion of an APA- or CPA-accredited doctoral program in psychology, completion of an APA-accredited internship, and completion of postdoctoral fellowship is preferred. The Emory + Children’s Pediatric Institute, in collaboration with Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, is seeking one full-time Pediatric Neuropsychologist (1.0 FTE) in the Department of Pediatrics, Division of Pediatric Neurology. Doctoral-level Clinician – Applied Behavior Analysis
Marcus Autism Center, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and Emory University Department of Pediatrics are conducting a search for a doctoral-level clinician (i.e., psychologist or BCBA-D) with specialization in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and early treatment of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in children to provide clinical care and to support the growth of our ABA Therapy Program. This position primarily focuses on providing clinical care, as well as clinical case management and supervision of Master’s-level Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) providing intervention to children targeting core deficits of autism. Children seen in the program receive 1:1 intervention delivered by Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs) for 3 hours/day, 5 days/week in a clinic setting. In the past year, the program has expanded beyond the Atlanta location to establish locations in both Cumming and Sandy Springs and has plans for continued growth. We are seeking individuals who are interested in joining a dedicated team of professionals seeking to provide the highest quality care to children with ASD. The clinician will be responsible for maintaining their own case load in the program, as well as providing mentorship and oversight to several BCBA providers across multiple program locations. The clinician will join a multidisciplinary treatment team that includes professionals from speech/language pathology, medicine, and care coordination/social work. Opening for a postdoctoral fellowship position co-mentored by two faculty to study the role of a signaling pathway in the development of cardiomyopathy. The project is funded by NIH and is based on discovery published in Nature Communications in 2020 that the PIX signaling pathway is required for assembly of integrin adhesion sites in the muscle of C. elegans. This was followed up by generating a heart-specific knockout of one PIX pathway component in mice. These mice develop dilated cardiomyopathy. Your job will be to characterize these mice and gain insight into how the cardiomyopathy develops. You can also receive training in C. elegans muscle biology studying the same pathway. Opportunity to take some aspects of this project to your own lab in the future. The Children’s Multidisciplinary Feeding Program announces an opening for a Postdoctoral Fellow. We are recruiting for a postdoctoral psychology fellow with experience in applied behavior analysis, pediatric psychology, and/or feeding disorders to work in the Children’s Multidisciplinary Feeding Program in Atlanta, GA. The Feeding program is one of the largest in the country providing intensive day treatment services, outpatient therapy, parent consultation, and assessment for children with chronic feeding concerns. The program also involves treatment of food avoidance due to food allergy and Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) to address behavior management concerns outside the meal setting, and parent-mediated intervention to improve mealtime behavior. This Fellow will work with children with various chronic medical conditions, including but not limited to eosinophilic esophagitis, post-transplant status, cystic fibrosis, cancer, various gastrointestinal conditions, and genetic syndromes. The Itzhaki Lab, at Emory University School of Medicine, is a cardiac electrophysiology translational research laboratory that seeks to employ a postdoctoral fellow specializing in one or more of the following areas: electrophysiology research, calcium signaling, induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) disease modeling, mathematical modeling of biological systems, and/or microfluidics. Emergency care is provided by two distinct groups, faculty of the Emory Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine and Pediatric Emergency Medicine Associates (PEMA), a private practice group. Though care delivered by these groups is provided at different locations in the System, PEMA and the Division have a history of productive interaction and collaboration, and there is a deliberate focus on advancing the alignment and culture of excellence of emergency care delivery across Children’s. Multiple learners, including 250 residents and 11 fellows, rotate through the Egleston, Hughes Spalding, Scottish Rite, and Grady EDs. The Egleston Campus, which opened in 1984, is home to the first and only state-designated Level I pediatric trauma center in Georgia. The facility has 45 ED beds, and it is located on the Emory University campus in the Decatur/Druid Hills area of Atlanta. The ED is comprised of a high performing group of professionals with a reputation as a premier provider of emergency care across the country. The ED has 61 beds, with the ability to flex up to 77 beds and an additional 14 patient care spaces if needed. In 2021, the Scottish Rite ED saw over 96,000 patients. The ED is staffed by PEMA, which was incorporated in 2000 but established in 1984 when the leadership at Scottish Rite Children’s Hospital recognized the need for a pediatric emergency room. Under the leadership of Dr. Joseph Simon, Atlanta’s first free-standing, exclusively pediatric emergency facility was established in July of 1984, which was four years before pediatric emergency medicine was recognized as a specialty with board certification. Initially staffed by four pediatric trained physicians with a special interest in acute care, the service has grown to over 100 physicians and advanced practice providers; it also includes a procedural sedation service. Doctoral Level Clinician for Language and Learning Clinic, Marcus Autism Center
Marcus Autism Center is conducting a search for a doctoral-level clinician (i.e., psychologist or BCBA-D) with specialization in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and early treatment of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in children to provide clinical care and to support the growth of our Language and Learning Clinic (LLC). This position primarily focuses on providing clinical care, as well as clinical case management and supervision of Master’s-level Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) providing intervention to children targeting core symptoms of autism. Children seen in the program receive 1:1 intervention delivered by Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs) for 6 hours/day, 5 days/week in a clinic setting. The program emphasizes early and focused treatment targeting social communication, play skills, and foundational learning skills, as well as reducing barriers to learning (e.g., limited reinforcers, mild to moderate problem behavior). Caregivers are active participants in their child’s intervention and receive training on how to promote and generalize skills into the home. The goal for each child admitted to the LLC is for them to acquire the critical skills they need to thrive in a less intensive setting. The LLC relies on the principles of ABA to inform treatment strategies, and utilizes a developmentally-appropriate approach to targeting skill acquisition. The program also has several active ongoing research projects investigating the most effective and efficient ways to improve functioning of autistic children and reduce barriers to learning (e.g. conditioning reinforcers). We are seeking individuals who are interested in joining a dedicated team of professionals seeking to provide the highest quality care to children with ASD. The clinician will be responsible for maintaining their own case load in the program, as well as providing mentorship and oversight to several BCBA providers. Children’s Division of Hospital Medicine In 2021, Children’s Division of Hospital Medicine physicians cared for more than 44,500 patients across our system. The Division is currently comprised of 52 core (permanently employed) physicians and a large pool of active PRN physicians. We experience an average daily census of 126 patients system wide. The hospitalist program at our Egleston Hospital was started by Joseph A. Snitzer, III, in 1983, and was one of the first of its kind. All pediatric hospitalists are faculty members of Emory University’s Department of Pediatrics and have clinical privileges at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. The team specializes in delivering and coordinating the clinical care of hospitalized children, but also has responsibilities in medical education, quality improvement, discharge planning and clinical research. The hospitalist program at our Scottish Rite Hospital was started in the spring of 1992 by Dr. Richard Kenny and Dr. Dennis Sullivan. At that time, most patients admitted at Scottish Rite were cared for by their own private physicians. Therefore, the hospitalist program was initially developed as a consultative service to assist these physicians. It was also designed to provide inpatient care for patients with a primary care physician unable to care for them during a hospital admission, such as physicians outside the Atlanta metropolitan area or family practitioners without privileges at Scottish Rite. The hospitalist program at our Hughes Spalding Hospital is managed separately by Emory University’s Division of General Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine. Division of Hospital Medicine faculty provide clinical coverage at Hughes Spalding. The Division Chief will work collaboratively with the Division Chief of General Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine to ensure patient care and quality goals are achieved. Over the next five years, around 1,500 contacts were made in offices and clinics all over Georgia educating clinicians that Scottish Rite had grown beyond its initial role as an orthopedic facility and that a hospitalist service was available to care for their patients during their hospital stay. In addition to staffing the Egleston and Scottish Rite inpatient units 24 hours a day, seven days a week, our hospitalists provide consultations to surgical and other subspecialty teams who require assistance. Preferred Qualifications: Experience acquiring and analyzying multiparametric MRI data including MR spectroscopy, diffusion weighted/tensor imaging, BOLD/resting-state fMRI, etc. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A doctoral degree or equivalent (Ph.D., M.D., ScD., D.V.M., DDS etc) in an appropriate field. Excellent scientific writing ability and strong oral communication skills. The ability to work effectively and collegially with colleagues.
