We are now looking for a

Doctoral researcher

to work at the Research unit of Population Health at the Faculty of Medicine. The Research Unit of Population Health is a multidisciplinary research unit that approaches questions related to human health through different disciplines. 

About the job

The doctoral researcher will work in a European TRIGGER project (SoluTions foR mItiGatinG climate-induced hEalth tReaths) studying the linkage between climate, ecosystems, and health. The TRIGGER consortium includes 22 partners from 15 European countries that will develop an outreaching clinical study composed by a multi-dimensional approach.

As a doctoral researcher you will be involved in high quality international research together with multidisciplinary research consortium. Your research will focus on the association between climate change and health, particularly on cardiovascular and respiratory diseases. You will also take part in collecting data from hospitalized patients in close collaboration with the Oulu University Hospital. Your tasks will also include collaboration with stakeholders, such as local non-governmental organizations and local decision makers.

Who are you?

We are welcoming candidates with:

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g. health sciences, public health, epidemiology, environmental health) and eligibility to apply to the University of Oulu Graduate School (UniOGS).
  • Fluent skills in Finnish and in English, both oral and writing.
  • Possibility to work in Oulu for at least during the data collection (about one year).

We also appreciate

  • Relevant background as a healthcare professional (e.g. nurse, public health nurse, medical doctor) and experience from clinical work.
  • Experience in quantitative datasets and statistical analyses.

Salary

The position is fixed-term for 4 years as of 1.11.2023 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The salary will be based on the levels 2-4 of the demand level chart for teaching and research staff of Finnish universities. In addition, a salary component based on personal work performance will be paid (maximum of 50% of the job-specific component). Starting gross salary will be approx. 2300-2600 € per month (before taxes).  A trial period of 6 months is applied in the position.
