We are now looking for

Assistant Professor in Radio Frequency Transceiver Signal Processing

to join us in the Centre for Wireless Communications (CWC) – Radio Technologies (RT) Research unit at the Faculty of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering (ITEE).

The technical scope of the position has an emphasis on the design of RF transceivers for communication and sensing systems, new concepts and architectures for a broad range of RF applications, including experimental testing and signal processing related to non-idealities and performance improvement techniques like transmitter linearization and calibrations. The work is expected to model RF transceivers and their components and experiment with key findings with hardware demonstrators. Mastering both theoretical and experimental research methodologies in RF signal processing and interference mitigation is a core requirement for the position.

Research at CWC covers signal processing and radio frequency (RF) engineering, radio access and network technologies, wireless network technologies, and wireless for various vertical applications. CWC employs total personnel of about 200 persons, including about 20 assistant, associate, or full professors. The focus of CWC-RT is on the lower layers, signal processing, and enabling RF technologies, including hardware design. CWC also leads the 6G Flagship covering research beyond connectivity and networking.

About the job

  • As an assistant professor, you will conduct research and supervise doctoral researchers and students in the field of research.
  • Your responsibilities also include teaching some courses in the field upon mutual agreement also based on your own interest and the needs of the curriculum.
  • You are expected to make research project and grant proposals, acquire competed research funding, and lead the projects.

In order to succeed and enjoy the position, we expect from you: 

  • Doctoral degree in applicable research field.
  • Proven expertise in the field of research and required methodology via top-level scientific international publications.
  • Capability and proven competence to experimental work in RF laboratory environment with commercial equipment testing research prototypes related to your field of expertise.
  • You must demonstrate the ability to work independently and have proven teaching skills.
  • In order to be eligible for a position as Assistant Professor, you must have received your doctoral degree not more than ten years ago.
  • Fluency in English and good command in Finnish is required.

Salary

The position is fixed-term for five years as of as soon as possible or upon mutual agreement.

The salary will be based on levels 05-06 of the requirement level chart for teaching and research staff of Finnish universities. In addition, a salary component based on personal work performance will be paid (a maximum of 50 % of the job-specific component). Starting gross salary will be approx. 4000-4800 € per month (before taxes).  A trial period of 6 months is applied for the position.

The eligible applicants fitting best in the profile expected for the position will be invited to an on-site or remote interview. All applicants will be notified during the selection process.

The selection process follows the University of Oulu tenure track guidelines. The process is carried out by a recruitment committee and the candidates are subjected to publication analyses based on their publication lists. The candidates that are considered most suitable by the recruitment committee will also undergo an expert evaluation.
