As a postdoctoral candidate, you are free to choose your own research topic within the context of large language models for automotive. You will be working closely with both academia and industry to develop and test your ideas and research.

Project description
This project is a close collaboration between AIXLab at Chalmers and Volvo Group. At AIXLab, our primary objective is to develop technical solutions that enhance the industrial usability of AI. In partnership with Volvo Group, we aim to advance natural language processing techniques, specifically leveraging the capabilities of Large Language Models (LLMs), tailored for the automotive sector. The overarching objective is to create a robust framework for the development of domain-specific LLMs.

Information about the division and the department
The Department of Computer Science and Engineering is a joint department at Chalmers University of Technology and the University of Gothenburg, with activities on two campuses in the city of Gothenburg. The department has around 270 employees from over 30 countries. Our research has a wide span, from theoretical foundations to applied systems development. We provide high quality education at Bachelor’s, Master’s and graduate levels, offering over 120 courses each year. We also have extensive national and international collaborations with academia, industry and society.

Major responsibilities
The primary research objective would be to adapt open-source LLMs to automate tasks in the automotive domain. These tasks can span a variety of areas, ranging from in-vehicle functionality to productivity in vehicle engineering. Successful candidates are expected to research, identify, propose, and evaluate effective recipes for adapting LLMs to automotive domains and tasks.

Your major responsibility as postdoc is to perform your own research in a research group. The position may also include teaching on undergraduate and master’s levels as well as supervising master’s and/or PhD students to a certain extent. Another important aspect involves collaboration within academia and with society at large. The position is meritorious for future research duties within academia as well as industry/the public sector.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, you must have a doctoral degree in computer science or a related field. You should have a strong background in Python programming, natural language processing, and deep learning. Experience with developing large language models will be considered a significant advantage.

You must hold a doctoral degree awarded no more than three years prior to the application deadline (according to the current agreement with the Swedish Agency for Government Employers).

The position requires sound verbal and written communication skills in English. Swedish is not a requirement but Chalmers offers Swedish courses.

You are expected to be somewhat accustomed to teaching, and to demonstrate good potential within research and education.

Contract terms
This postdoc position is a full-time temporary employment for two years.
