Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

The Department of Cell and Molecular Biology (CMB, https://ki.se/en/cmb/department-of-cell-andmolecular-biology) is one of five departments conducting advanced experimental research under one roof in the new building of Biomedicum, Karolinska Institutet (https://ki.se), one of Europe’s largest laboratories with ultramodern facilities. CMB is a department with a strong focus on basic science and conducts research and education in cell biology, molecular biology, developmental biology, stem cell biology, cancer and infection biology.

Division

The selected candidate will become a valued member of a small but compact and closely-knit research team located at the Biomedicum quarter 7A, sharing lab with four other groups working on different aspects of biology, including genomic integrity/DNA repair, cell cycle regulation, metabolism and protein ubiquitylation. The position is placed in Olle Sangfelt’s research group (https://ki.se/en/cmb/olle-sangfelts-group) focusing on ubiquitin ligases regulating DNA surveillance mechanisms and immune evasion pathways. The overarching goal of the research is to provide mechanistic insights into the function of ubiquitin ligases in cancer progression, knowledge that may pave the way for the discovery of new cancer therapeutics.

Duties

The postdoc will operate closely with the group leader to maintain a high standard of professionalism within research group. The candidate is expected to perform independently with personal responsibility project development, within the framework of the project objective. To achieve these goals, the candidate is anticipated to possess substantial experience in a range of molecular, cellular, and biochemical techniques, as well as a documented ability to successfully carry out research projects. As the group have several ongoing collaborations with other research teams, the postdoc is expected to further develop these collaborations but also establish new researcher collaborations that contribute to the project’s advancement.

Qualifications

We are seeking a scientist who is highly passionate, motivated, and creative to join our team. The successful applicant holds a PhD in Biomedical science, Cancer Biology or Molecular Biology. Applicants should demonstrate a strong academic record and independence, with a minimum of at least one first-author publication in a high-ranked journal within the past two years. Demonstrated expertise in cell/molecular and biochemical research techniques, along with proficiency in data analysis and the communication of research findings at conferences is essential. The ideal candidate should also possess skills in grant application writing, supervision, and a solid grasp of both written and spoken English.

Experience from ubiquitin research, immune oncology, DNA repair, bioinformatics, deep learning and cancer genetics is an advantage.

Entry requirements

Scholarships for postdoctoral qualification can be established for foreign researchers who place their qualifications in Sweden. The purpose of scholarships for postdoctoral qualification is to promote internationalization and contribute to research qualification after a doctorate or equivalent.
A scholarship for carrying out postdoctoral research can be granted for a maximum of two years within a four year period following the receipt of a doctoral degree or equivalent.
To be eligible for a postdoctoral scholarship, the person must have obtained a doctorate or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctorate. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) start date of the post doctoral education.

The head of the department determines whether their previous training and scholarly qualifications correspond to a Swedish doctorate or higher.

Location: Solna

Type of scholarship

The amount is tax free and it is set for twelve months at a time, paid out on a six months basis. In exceptional cases, shorter periods may be acceptable.

Application process

An application must contain the following documents in English or Swedish:

  • A complete curriculum vitae, including date of the thesis defence, title of the thesis, previous academic positions, academic title, current position, academic distinctions, and committee work
