Position Overview

The Faculty of Social Work invites applications for a Research Coordinator. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 12 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

This position reports to the Principal Investigator of the Canadian Youth Mental Health and Peer Support (YPS) Research Project. The Youth Mental Health and Peer Support Project is a multi-network service transformation and research study. The overall objective of this study is to develop Canadian Youth Peer Support guidelines, a training curriculum and an evaluation framework to assess implementation in Integrated Youth Services (IYS). The successful candidate is responsible to and will work closely with the Principal Investigator at the University of Calgary with much of the work conducted remotely.

The Research Coordinator will help support research activities related to the Youth Mental Health and Peer Support Project. The research coordinator will provide research, analysis, and data collection facilitation, writing and critical thinking expertise to the project. They will handle multiple tasks within a fast-paced environment. The research coordinator will develop and maintain positive working relationships with all project stakeholders including youth, service providers, researchers, policymakers, as well as other members of the research study.

Position Description

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Responsible for the coordination and administration of research project
  • Coordinate communication between internal and external members
  • In collaboration with the Principal Investigator, developing the structure, objectives, and policies of the research project, evaluating research activities and recommending improvements when appropriate
  • Working closely with the Principal Investigator in the coordination of project resources
  • Develop project timelines, monitor and control of project deadlines and outcomes, and closeout of project
  • May provide supervision and direction to administrative and research staff and students in the assignment of tasks and duties
  • Manages own time effectively and ensures Principal Investigator is kept informed of activities and progress of work
  • Provide support to other members of the team and related units or teams as needed
  • Advise regarding selection of appropriate research measures
  • Carry out study protocol including qualitative and quantitative data collection
  • Compile study data and oversee data entry into project database
  • Set up and maintain database using related software applications (such as NVivo, SPSS, STATA, RedCAP, etc.)
  • Exercise professional judgment within established guidelines
  • Deals effectively with complex issues and concerns
  • Maintain study files with proper version control

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Minimum Master’s degree in Health Research, Psychology or other area related youth mental health research is required,
  • 2 to 3 years of active involvement in research in an academic or clinical research setting, research institute or in an organization under the direction of a principal investigator required
  • Minimum 2 years experience in coordinating programs or projects in mental health research required
  • Extensive knowledge of theory and practical application of research policies and procedures is required
  • Experience with scoping reviews a strong asset
  • Self-starter with strong personal initiative and ability to take initiative, multi-task, set priorities, meet tight deadlines and manage work in a fast-paced environment is required
  • Ability to plan and direct research and administrative activities within a team environment required
  • Demonstrated time management and organizational skills
  • Flexibility, commitment, and ability to plan meetings are required
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication (written and oral), and organizational skills required
  • Proven ability with report writing, assistance in production of research papers suitable for publication, and supporting knowledge translation activities
  • Experience with quantitative and / or qualitative data collection and analysis required
  • Knowledge of TCPS2 guidelines for human subjects research
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint required
  • Proficiency with software for data collection and/or analysis an asset (e.g., REDCAP, SPSS, STATA, NVivo) required
  • Experience with ZOOM and Microsoft Teams is required
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks appropriately
  • Working with multi-site projects an asset
  • Strong interpersonal initiative and teamwork with the ability to provide support to other members of the team and related units or teams
  • Open to learning and willing to accept new challenges and assignments
