Position Description
The Faculty of Kinesiology invites applications for Sessional Instructors to teach the courses listed below in Winter 2024 (pending funding and sufficient enrolments).
The Winter 2024 term runs from January 2 to April 30, with most courses listed below starting January 8 and ending April 9 (followed by the Registrar final exam period, which runs April 12 to April 23). Please see the academic schedule for additional important dates and deadlines.
Courses of Instruction
All courses are scheduled in-person. In general, instructor responsibilities include: course instruction; assessment and grading; creation and management of the course D2L shell; ongoing communication with students, teaching assistants (where applicable), and staff; and, other assigned duties (as applicable).
KNES 203: Activity: Health, Fitness, & Performance
Fundamentals of exercise physiology are used in a variety of theoretically supported activities to experience the benefits of exercise and an understanding of exercise prescription and evaluation.
Lecture: T/R 11:00-11:50
Lab: Graduate Assistants (Teaching) run the labs; the course instructor will be required to coordinate with the GATs but not teach the lab component.
KNES 253: Introduction to Exercise and Sport Psychology
An introduction to the psycho-social concepts underlying an understanding of human behaviour in physical activity, sport, and health. Please note that this course is designed to focus 50% of content on exercise and health psychology and 50% on sport psychology; we are hiring for the sport psychology component only.

Lab: Graduate Assistants (Teaching) run the labs; the course instructor will be required to coordinate with the GATs but not teach the lab component
KNES 377: Sport Injury Prevention
Concepts of sport injury prevention, basic research design and methods used in prevention research, multifactorial nature of sport injury and development and plan to apply the fundamentals of sport injury including primary, secondary and tertiary prevention.

KNES 396: Research Seminar
Students attend, discuss, and critique a series of research seminars in the Human Performance Laboratory.
Lecture: R 15:00-17:45
KNES 475: Physiology of Athletic Performance
The physiological factors and principles of training affecting performance will be reviewed and challenged on the scientific basis of experimental evidence.

KNES 495: Physiological Aspects of Aging, Disease, and Physical Activity
An examination of the interaction between aging, age-associated disease (e.g., cardiovascular disease) and physical activity. The major emphasis will be on the physiological processes involved.

KNES 503.82: Sport Injury Rehabilitation
An introduction to the general principles of sport injury rehabilitation for kinesiology students, with a particular focus on understand the basic concepts of sports injury rehabilitation from a holistic and practical perspective.

KNES 609: Statistical Techniques in Kinesiology
Basic concepts of statistical analysis as they apply to research methods used in various disciplines in kinesiology.
Lecture: T/R 14:00-15:15
Tutorial: A Graduate Assistant (Teaching) will run the tutorial; the course instructor will be required to coordinate with the GAT but not teach the tutorial component
KNES 698: Practicum IV (Masters of Kinesiology)
The practicum will consist of multiple experiences in applied physiology environments. Day/time/ modality to be confirmed.
KNES 773: Integrative Exercise Physiology
The effects of exercise on the complex physiological interactions between different systems in the human body.
Lecture: T/R 08:00-09:15
Lab: The course instructor will be required to coordinate with Faculty exercise physiology lab technicians but not teach the lab component
Position Requirements
For the 10 courses listed above, applicants must meet the following qualifications/requirements:
- Earned a PhD in Kinesiology or a related field; a master’s degree in Kinesiology or a related field will be considered.
- Evidence of successful teaching at the university level and related to the content of the course(s) to which application is being made.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate and work effectively with diverse groups of people.
- Experience teaching virtually will be considered an asset.
Activity Labs (KNES 201, Activity: Essence & Experience)
In KNES 201, which comprises of a lecture component and activity labs, students participate in various activities and movement patterns and the study of the fundamental factors that influence the activities we choose and the way we move. We are hiring for the activity labs only. Please note that the activity labs are offered in 6-week blocks: Block 1 runs January 8 to February 16; Block 2 runs February 26 to April 9.

Lab 3: T/R 11:00-12:15
Lab 4: T/R 15:30-16:45
Lab 5: W/F 15:00-16:15

For KNES 201 activity labs, applicants must meet the following qualifications/requirements:
• Earned at minimum a bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology or a related field.
• Advanced expertise in the activity they will be instructing as part of KNES 201.
• Evidence of strong instructing of said activity, with teaching at the university level considered an asset.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate and work effectively with diverse groups of people.
• Experience instructing virtually will be considered an asset.

Please note that the assignment of lab day/time will be dependent on availability of appropriate activity space.
