ERC-funded Postdoc and Ph.D. position in molecular biology
About the Project: The successful candidate will join the Andergassen lab at the Institute of Pharmacology and Toxicology, Technical University of Munich (TUM). The lab bridges computational (allele-specific epi-genomics) and experimental strategies (high-throughput bulk/single cell sequencing, viral vectors, CRISPR in vivo editing) to understand the molecular mechanism behind sex differences observed in heart failure. A particular focus will be on genes that escape X-chromosome inactivation in females, resulting in higher gene dosage compared to males, an understudied epigenetic phenomenon that has so far not been linked to sex bias in heart failure. This basic project will deepen our understanding of the molecular mechanisms underlying the sex bias in heart failure and aims to develop RNA-based therapies for sex-specific treatments. Three PhD positions on crosstalk of brown fat and brain
The Chair of Molecular Nutritional Medicine is located at the TUM School of Life Sciences Weihenstephan, Technical University of Munich. Our research addresses the effect of nutrition on energy balance aiming to identify adaptive components of energy expenditure. We study models ranging from the molecular, organellar, cellular to the in vivo level. You will conduct research in a collaborative environment with well-equipped laboratories, excellent cooperation opportunities and a stimulating scientific atmosphere. Research at the Chair of Zoology (TUM School of Life Sciences Weihenstephan) focuses on sensory processing in the central nervous system, using different animal model system and a wide range of methodological approaches including in-vivo and in-vitro electrophysiology, imaging and neuroanatomy. The close interdisciplinary cooperation of the two chairs enables an extraordinary exchange of knowledge from which all participating scientists will benefit enormously.

Post-Doc m/w/d: Skalierung biotechnologischer Prozesse
Die Skalierung biotechnologischer Prozesse vom Labor bis in den Produktionsmaßstab stellt eine Herausforderung für die rasche Etablierung der Bioökonomie dar. In Zusammenarbeit mit verschiedenen externen Partnern arbeitet die Professur für Bioverfahrenstechnik an der Entwicklung von Konzepten zum systematischen Scale-up von Biopro- zessen. Dabei werden mehrere nachhaltige Bioprozesse betrachtet und dabei Engpässe und Kostentreiber frühzeitig identifiziert und alternative Routen bewertet. Das übergeordnete Ziel dabei ist, frühzeitig das ökonomisch und öko- logische Optimum zu identifizieren, den Zeit- und Ressourcenbedarf, sowie das technische Risiko im Scale-up zu minimieren.

The Reif group (Biological Solid-State NMR) is looking for 2 PhD students in the field of NMR supported structural biology. Our group is interested in the structural characterization of biomolecules using MAS solid-state and solution-state NMR spectroscopy, with focus on amyloidogenic peptides and proteins. Our research is divided into the areas 1) Understanding of the mechanisms that lead to protein aggregation at atomic resolution, 2) Investigation of large protein complexes that are not amenable by solution-state NMR or crystallography, 3) Development of methods in solid-state NMR for quantification of structure and dynamics of biomolecules.

PhD for DFG Project: Wood- do you like this smell?
The Holzforschung München of the Technische Universität München with the professorships for “Wood Science”, “Wood Technology” and “Fungal Biotechnology in Wood Science” promotes the innovative and sustainable use of wood-based materials and products through research, teaching and development projects. About the project: The objective of the work is to elucidate the influence of wood characteristics and environmental and technological treatment on the chemical composition and properties of wood, here with the focus on the wood odour and VOC emission profiles. To achieve this aim, the overall odour of wood of Cembran pine (Pinus cembra L.) will be evaluated by sensory investigation. Thereby, not only the wood of different varieties and origins but also standard initial types of treatment will be investigated. The elucidation of common wood characterizing parameters, the overall VOC emission profiles together with determination of the main odour-active compounds will generate a deeper understanding of the unique chemistry and smell properties of Cembran pine. The project is funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG).
