We are inviting applications for two permanent positions as Senior Specialists in Research Funding / Grant Writers in the Research Services and Graduate School unit. The mission of the unit is to produce and develop services and processes for research and doctoral education. Our areas of expertise include research funding, responsible and open science, science and research policy, as well as research training.
The desired start date is in March 2024 or as agreed.
Your role
Your main responsibility will be to contribute to writing and preparing research funding applications and other preparatory work in active collaboration with researchers and research groups seeking funding. Apart from major domestic research funders, grant writing activities focus specifically on EU Framework Programme funding and other international funding instruments.
Other responsibilities will include identifying suitable research funding opportunities and informing about them, advising researchers on matters related to obtaining research funding, maintaining contact with research funding entities and providing training on research funding. You will also carry out these tasks in the EUNICE network that is funded by Erasmus+, where the University of Vaasa is involved with ten other European Universities. Your goal is to support the operations of the network through the tasks you are responsible for.
In addition, your tasks may include other responsibilities within our unit based on the needs, as well as your skills and interests.
Requirements
- A master’s degree
- Good knowledge of key research funding instruments
- Experience in applying for research funding
- Excellent proficiency in English and fluency in written and spoken Finnish
- Stress tolerance and an ability to prioritise tasks, as the work can be busy at times
- Teamwork and negotiation skills
- Initiative and a proactive approach to work
- Enthusiasm for writing and editing texts
Having a doctoral degree and previous success in international funding project applications are regarded as merits.

The salary will be based on the Finnish University Salary System for expert and support staff. The monthly salary is based on job demand levels 10-11 (3634,74 – 4145,22 €/month). An additional personal salary component is paid based on work performance.
