It engages in a broad spectrum of informatics research and service initiatives across the University of Florida (UF). These services include building the informatics infrastructure for the OneFlorida Clinical Research Network. BMI is responsible for establishing and maintaining the software, infrastructure, and data management processes required for all these networks. Recently, leveraging a $50 million hardware (i.e., HiPerGator AI cluster–top 20 worldwide with 140 NVIDIA SuperPODs and 1,120 A100 GPUs) from NVIDIA, we created GatorTron and GatorTronGPT—the largest clinical large language models (LLMs) trained with all UF Health patients’ clinical notes. This position will work under the guidance of Dr. Xing He, in collaboration with a team of data scientists, clinicians, bioinformaticians and computer scientists to fulfill the research and service missions of the BMI program, especially for NLP projects. A particular area of interest for this project is the role of the human gut microbiota in cancer pathogenesis and therapeutic response. The incumbent will work independently to develop new methodologies using mass spectrometry for the analysis of microbial metabolites. This individual must be familiar with High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), mass spectrometry technologies and data analysis, and analytical chemistry techniques. The University of Florida campus is a highly collaborative environment, and it is expected that the incumbent will pursue productive collaborations with investigators in developing, validating and establishing robust analytical pipelines in support of microbial metabolomic research.
