This is an excellent opportunity for a post-doctoral researcher to join an exciting research project funded by Worldwide Cancer Research: Nucleoli, inflammation and cancer risk: does size matter?. Advanced age is one of the most significant risk factors for cancer. Two hallmarks of aging are enlarged nucleoli and inflammation. This project will use state of the art imaging technologies on unique human and animal tissues we have access to, alongside phenotypic assays and molecular studies, to determine the relationship between nucleolar size, inflammation and cancer initiation. The project will be supported by expert collaborators from Edinburgh, Glasgow and Newcastle Universities. This research has far-reaching implications as it will help us understand how age predisposes to cancer, allowing identification of biological markers and interventions that are applicable to this population.
