KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm has grown to become one of Europe’s leading technical and engineering universities, as well as a key centre of intellectual talent and innovation. We are Sweden’s largest technical research and learning institution and home to students, researchers and faculty from around the world. Our research and education covers a wide area including natural sciences and all branches of engineering, as well as architecture, industrial management, urban planning, history and philosophy.
Job description
The division of Mechatronics and Embedded Control Systems is searching for a research engineer in the field of the design and verification of Automated Driving and Edge based Intelligent Transportation Systems. As a research engineer, you will be supporting a research team that works with developing new architecture concepts, on-line risk assessment approaches and supporting development methods, as well as evaluating and demonstrating them. Note that the Research Engineer position has a developmental profile and roughly corresponds to roles such as Software and Systems Design Engineer, and you will support (rather than conduct) independent research.
Your role will be to lead in the development and coordination of the activities related to the development of the testbed AD-EYE (www.adeye.se), which showcases our work in Automated Driving and edge-based Intelligent Transportation Systems. Your primary task is to maintain and build the testbed with the help of relevant experts within our research group, and grow the asset base of software, hardware and workflows for the testbed.
You will be expected to gain knowledge on the different tools required for simulation, help propose solutions based on the needs of the research group, and coordinate development and reuse of the work products of related projects within the area. You will be responsible for the maintenance of a growing diverse code base for automated driving functions, related models, and scenarios and will be responsible for effectively communicating the capabilities of the simulation testbed and associated libraries with both the members of our research group and our industrial collaborators.
A typical day begins with leading a stand-up meeting coordinating the work of interns, master thesis projects, and other developers who report to you. Depending on the current needs, and the progression of the sprint, you then proceed to elicit requirements from stakeholders, model architectural changes, implement new features or document existing ones, write test cases, design and run experiments in simulation or with vehicles to collect data.
There will be a considerable overlap in time (Approximately 6 months) with the person who currently holds the role to ensure support and a smooth phase-in to your new role.
