Aalto University School of Business, located in the Helsinki metropolitan area, invites applications for an
OPEN RANK PROFESSORSHIP OF ENTREPRENEURSHIP
at the Entrepreneurship Unit of the Department of Management Studies. This position is to be filled at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor level of the Aalto University tenure track system. The position will begin on September 1st, 2022.

Our Entrepreneurship Unit is part of the Department of Management Studies, which has 100 employees, 1/3 of which are international. We are a significant provider of rigorous and high-impact entrepreneurship research and educate future leaders with a strong ethical and entrepreneurial mindset. Our entrepreneurship research meets the highest standards of quality, and is published in top entrepreneurship journals, such as the Journal of Business Venturing and Entrepreneurship Theory & Practice, as well as in top management journals, such as the Academy of Management Journal and Academy of Management Review. Our entrepreneurship research has frequently received scientific awards and prestigious funding, while we also regularly collaborate with policy-makers and practitioners, including advising the ILO, the OECD, and the European Commission on entrepreneurship matters.
Job description
The successful applicant is expected to take on the following responsibilities, depending on the level of appointment:
- Conducting individual- and group-based research, meeting high international standards
- Designing and offering student-oriented, high-quality teaching, and supervising undergraduate, graduate and doctoral students’ work
- Leading or participating in administrative tasks and strategic decision-making at the level of Unit, Department and School
- Participating in, or initiating and leading applications for (inter-)national funding of research projects
- Participating in regular research activities, such as research seminars, workshops and conferences
- Communicating findings to the public in general, and to Aalto University’s stakeholders in particular
- Acting as regular ad hoc reviewer, potentially serving as editorial (review) board member of top-tier journals
- Promoting Aalto University’s academic reputation
Applicants should hold a doctorate, which can be from diverse disciplines provided that the candidate’s research focus lies in entrepreneurship. High proficiency in written and spoken English is a requirement for this position. The ideal candidate would be someone with considerable teaching experience, as well as a strong, field-related research record such as evidenced by placement in top-tier entrepreneurship journals (e.g. JBV, ETP, SEJ).
The contract is full-time and either fixed-term or permanent, depending on an applicant’s positioning in the tenure track system. Aalto University follows EU rules and regulations on HR policies. Based on the regulation (EC) No 883/2004 on the coordination of social security systems, full-time employment at Aalto University is inconsistent with residence abroad. Employment duties need to be performed in Finland. The specific responsibilities and salary are determined based on the applicant’s qualifications and level of position. The position comes with a manageable teaching load and initial research funding. In addition, Aalto University provides its employees with occupational health care services.
