The School of Public Health and Community Medicine at the Institute of Medicine, conducts teaching and research in global public health, community medicine, occupational medicine, environmental medicine, social medicine, pharmaceutical use and policy. We also conduct teaching and research in nutritional epidemiology, insurance medicine, innovation and entrepreneurship, health economics, biostatistics and register epidemiology.

We are now seeking a lecturer for a temporary employment to contribute to our teaching in the master programs in public health and global health.

Subject area

Global Public Health

Subject area description

Global public health is a subject area that studies population health at the local to the global level. It is an interdisciplinary subject area that includes perspectives from a number of different disciplines. Important focus topics include determinants of population health at a structural and societal level, e.g. poverty, social inequality, lifestyle factors relationship to population health. The effect on population health of disease prevention and health promoting interventions is also an important part of global public health, including the formulation, analysis and evaluation of disease prevention and health promotion interventions with regards to population health, cost-effectiveness and distributional considerations.

Job assignments

Tasks include teaching, mentoring students and course leadership, where the latter include cooperative work within the group of teachers in planning, organizing and administering the courses in the master programs in public health and global health. The position also includes program-general tasks, student contacts, pedagogical development work, and cooperation with education-relevant agents within and outside the university. To actively work to achieve the aims of the Institute and participate in Institute-wide activities are also expected.

Eligibility

The qualifications for academic positions are given in the forms of employment for the University of Gothenburg.

Requirements are a masters degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline, such as global public health, public health science, health economics, epidemiology, biostatistics, or another discipline that the employer deems equivalent, as well as demonstrated pedagogical competence. The ability to teach in English is required.

Assessment

Regulations for the evaluation of qualifications for academic positions are given in the forms of employment for the University of Gothenburg.

The assessment is primarily based on pedagogical skills, secondarily on scientific skills. In the assessment of pedagogical skills, broad competence that covers several of the various areas of global public health, but particularly quantitative epidemiological methods, health economics, and quantitative evaluation methods, is particularly meritorious. The assessment also includes demonstrated good ability to meet students with different subject and professional backgrounds. Experience and skill in academic teaching in the subject must be well documented and certified. The assessment of pedagogical skills refers to planning, ability to work based on given frameworks, implementation and evaluation of teaching, as well as supervision, examination, course development and course or program responsibility in areas relevant to the employment.

In the assessment of scientific skills, special emphasis will be placed on merits in global public health with relevance to areas covered in courses within our masters programs in global health and public health.

A PhD degree is a strong merit as is experience from doctoral education.

Administrative skills and the ability to interact with the surrounding community are also an advantage. In addition, personal qualities such as accuracy and flexibility as well as demonstrated ability for both personal responsibility and cooperation will be taken into account.

Employment

Temporary employement, 18 months full time 100 %. The position and is located at The Institute of Medicine. Start in January 2022 or as agreed.
