The Institute of Clinical Sciences, Department of Pediatrics is hiring a researcher in translational pediatric cancer research. The research group focuses the work in the junction between clinical pediatric oncology and experimental research. The work is characterized by a tight collaboration between clinical and basic researchers within the group, as well as with colleagues in adjacent research groups. The lab is located at the Sahlgrenska Center for Cancer Research, Medicinaregatan.

This research project aims to use modern genetics to develop better and less invasive markers of disease burden, treatment response and relapse in pediatric cancer. We perform experimental research on tissue samples from children with all types of cancer, treated at the pediatric cancer center, Sahlgrenska University Hospital.

Job assignments

The main task of this position is to lead and perform research projects independently, but in close collaboration with colleagues of different professions. You will design and perform experiments, collect and interpret data, and write scientific papers. This position will be focused on the laboratory side of the project, and you will not be in contact with the patients. The work will include some administrative tasks such as product ordering and lab organization.

Qualifications

The applicant must have a PhD degree in a field in relevant subject area. Experience as postdoctor is required. The successful candidate must have practical laboratory experience. Other qualifications are excellent oral and, more importantly, written English language skills, proven ability to write coherent scientific text with at least one published or submitted manuscript where the applicant is the first author and wrote a major part of the text.

Previous work in the area of cancer genetics or liquid biopsies is highly meritorious, as is experience of PCR, next-generation sequencing, and other DNA analysis methods. It is expected that you can both conduct research in a highly independent manner as well as the ability to cooperate with others. We value a candidate who is driven, organizational, meticulous and effective. Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability.
