About usThe research focus of the Theoretical Quantum Systems Design group is on questions that are motivated from practical communication system design and deployment. We develop concepts for near-term quan-tum communication networks and study quantum communication techniques from the perspective of novel use cases. Our scientific methods are based on quantum information theory, theoretical quantum communication system design and simulations. We develop hardware control methods to accelerate the knowledge exchange between theory and experiment and apply analytical and numerical methods. We encourage interdisciplinary work, especially the collaboration and contact with research groups focusing on classical system design and experimental research on quantum systems and strengthen the contact to the TUM Entrepreneurship center wherever possible.

Das Klinikum rechts der Isar der Technischen Universität München bietet in der Klinik für RadioOnkologie und Strahlentherapie in der AG Multhoff eine PhD-Stelle (TV-L E13, 65%) zur Analyse strahleninduzierter Schäden (insbesondere an Endothelzellen) im Normalgewebe (Herz, Lunge, Gehirn) und Tumorgewebe (Glioblastom) sowie deren Wirkung auf Inflammation- und tumorhemmende Wirkstoffe (Cannabidiol und Fenofibrat) im Mausmodell an. Im Zentralinstitut für Translationale Krebsforschung der Technischen Universität München (TranslaTUM) führen wir Grundlagen und präklinische Forschung mit höchster Relevanz für die kardiovaskuläre Medizin durch. In den vergangenen Jahren konnte unsere Arbeitsgruppe verschiedene Proteine identifizieren, welche mit Langzeitstrahlenschäden in Verbindung stehen. In diesem BMBF geförderten Projekt sollen durch den Einsatz von Inflammation- und Tumorhemmende Wirkstoffe neben der Kompensation strahleninduzierten Schäden am Normalgewebe auch die Sensibilisierung am Tumorgewebe nach einer Bestrahlung untersucht werden.

We are looking for a Research Associate / Doctoral Candidate (m/f/d)
The research project and environment: This project deals with the investigation of dehydratases involved in enzymatic cascades for the production of fuels and other chemicals from renewable raw materials. Enzymes of the dehydratase class play a special role in this process, as they enable the chemical defunctionalization of carbohydrates. In the planned project, Ancient Sequence Reconstruction methods will be used to investigate the common origin of the various dehydratases and to develop enzymes with new activity. The project is realized together with partners from the University of Queensland, Australia. In addition, a three-months research stay at the University of Queensland is planned. The Chair of Chemistry of Biogenic Resources at the Technical University of Munich’s Straubing Campus for Biotechnology and Sustainability has been active in the field of biocatalysis for more than a decade. The site as a whole develops processes for sustainable and environmentally friendly chemical production. For this purpose, natural scientists, engineers, ecosystem scientists and economists work closely together in teaching and research.

For an industrial led R&D project, we are looking for 2 Postdocs (m/f/d) in the field of: Biocatalysis/ Enzyme engineering & Structural bioinformatics. Within an interdisciplinary team of four scientists at TUM together with several biotech companies the project will focus on the design of new biocatalysts. By the combination of protein structure prediction, high throughput enzyme production and data generation as well as data interpretation using advanced methods of artificial intelligence new enzymes should be developed in a recursive cycle of synthetic biology for so far unknown reactions. The new biocatalysts will then be applied in large scale biotransformation.

Scientific Employee for the DFG Project Resi4MPM – Design of Intelligent and Resilient Production Systems
The Institute of Automation and Information Systems is one of the leading institutes for automation and software engineering in automation. We are part of the TUM School of Engineering and Design and are strongly linked to computer science. One of our key research areas is the design and operation of intelligent production systems. In the current competitive environment, effectiveness and resilience of such production systems are key, i.e., they must be able to recover from faults. Especially faults on the field-level are oftentimes the reason for downtime, requiring resilient and intelligent field-level devices. Due to real-time constraints, the decision-making process on the field-level has to be highly efficient, necessitating appropriate information representations and algorithms. On the machine-level, (semi-)automatic recovery from faults and restarts have a huge potential for increasing the Overall Equipment Effectiveness. The design of such resilient systems is complemented by alarm analysis, e.g., root-cause analyses, which we investigate regarding implementation both within the field-level and using a cloud-based architecture. We are currently looking for a PhD candidate to join our motivated team in this research area.

These can be realized via Multi-Agent Systems (MAS), which have the potential to disrupt the production industry. Even though having been around for a while, MAS have not gained traction. This is partially due to the effort for creating the individual agents’ knowledge bases and the effort for transforming legacy factories. The current trend towards the prevalence of Digital Twins and related technologies may serve as an enabler for MAS and initiate a research renaissance for the MAS technology in production systems. Hence, we research how Digital Twins and related concepts may pave the way for bringing MAS into production reality and how these MAS can be turned into continuously evolving and learning entities. In einem interdisziplinären Team bearbeitest du ein Forschungsprojekt, an dem zahlreiche deutsche Forschungsinstitute diverser Fachrichtungen beteiligt sind. Darin bist du dafür verantwortlich, den Fahrzeugaufbau eines autonomen Fahrzeugs zu koordinieren. Dies beinhaltet die Koordination des Gesamtaufbaus und der Inbetriebnahme des Fahrzeugs und dessen Komponenten. Zusätzlich unterstützt du den Innenraumaufbau und die Softwareintegration eines automatisierten Türsystems. Die Erprobung des Fahrzeugs mit unter anderem von dir zu definierenden Versuchen schließen das Projekt ab. Im Anschluss an das Projekt hast du ab Mitte 2023 die Möglichkeit, das aufgebaute Fahrzeug zu nutzen, um an autonomen Fahrzeugkonzepten zu forschen.
