Job Summary

This position will be filled as a Research Engineer or Senior Research Engineer. The hiring manager will determine the job level based on the skills, experience and qualifications of the selected candidate.


The Research Engineer position is for the Purdue High-Speed Compressor Lab at Zucrow Labs. This lab currently has 4 active test cells where compressor rigs are tested using electric motors and speed-increasing gearboxes.  The research performed on these compressor rigs (both axial and radial) is funded by external sponsors to improve efficiency and durability of their aircraft engine products. The Research Engineer will be supporting the experimental research by performing duties including the following: assembling/disassembling the compressor rigs, setting up appropriate instrumentation and data acquisition systems, running the tests, and completing basic data processing and reporting as necessary. The Research Engineer will also work with graduate students to teach them how to perform these types of activities to support their research.    
 

Research Engineer:
 

Required:

  • Master’s degree in mechanical, aeronautical, or electrical engineering
  • Six (6) months of research experience in industry or graduate school
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be accepted (for example, a Bachelor’s degree and 2.5 years of experience)
  • Knowledge of instrumentation and data acquisition systems and effective troubleshooting
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage resources wisely to meet project goals and deadlines    

Preferred:

  • Experience with high-speed rotating machinery

Senior Research Engineer:
 

Required:

  • Master’s degree in mechanical, aeronautical, or electrical engineering
  • Two (2) years of research experience in industry or graduate school
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be accepted (for example, a Bachelor’s degree and 4 years of experience)
  • Knowledge of instrumentation and data acquisition systems and effective troubleshooting
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage resources wisely to meet project goals and deadlines    

Preferred:

  • Experience with high-speed rotating machinery

  • FLSA: Exempt (Not Eligible For Overtime)
