The Department of Urban and Regional Planning (BYREG), Faculty of Landscape and Society (LANDSAM) at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU) has a vacant 3-year researcher position in the field of urban studies.
The researcher will conduct her/his research as part of the European Project “ReHousIn: Contextualized pathways to Reduce Housing Inequalities in the green and digital transition” funded by Horizon Europe.
The project investigates the relationship between green transition initiatives (NbS implementation, densification strategies, ecological retrofitting) and housing inequalities in European urban and rural contexts, and will develop innovative policy recommendations for a better integration between environmentally sustainable interventions and socially inclusive housing. The intended startup time for this position is March 2024.
The researcher will join the project team, as well as the Department of Urban and Regional Planning.
Main tasks
The researcher will:
- provide descriptive and exploratory analyses of housing inequalities in Norway, by using quantitative and spatial data at the highest possible resolution.
- provide a qualitative analysis of environmental, energy policies and housing policies through an in-depth review of policies and regulations and a multi-level governance lens.
- analyze the local implications of green housing transitions by conducting qualitative analysis in 3 local case study areas (interviews with stakeholders; focus groups; workshops).
- conduct cross-case comparative analysis at international level.
- develop and implement a strategy for communication and dissemination activities.
- publish in international recognized academic journals.
- take part in team meetings and activities at national and international level.
Competence:
Required Academic qualifications
Applicants must:
- hold a degree equivalent to a Norwegian Doctoral degree in spatial planning, urban studies, urban sociology or in a related field
- hold a good record of scientific publications in international recognized journals on topics relevant to the research project
- be proficient with common GIS and statistical software
- have research experience in qualitative methods (document analysis; interviews with key-informants; etc)
- have fluent oral and written communication skills in English.
- have basic knowledge of Norwegian or another Scandinavian language
- be well-structured in approach to work and time use; Independent and responsive; Motivated to manage research projects
- show good collaborative skills.
The following qualifications will be an advantage
- Have good knowledge about housing and environmental policies in Norway
- Experience with international/comparative research in urban studies
Remuneration and further information
The position is placed in government pay scale position code 1109 Researcher, wage framework 24 (salary grade 62, NOK 604900) on the Norwegian Government salary scale. The position follows ordinary meriting regulations.
For the first year, the position will be part-time 80 %, with the possibility for the employer to extend to a full-time position in the following 2 years.
