These postdoctoral fellowship positions, part of the Chalmers Initiative on Cosmic Origins (CICO), will be hosted in the Astronomy & Plasma Physics (AoP) division, within the Department of Space, Earth & Environment (SEE). SEE contains five divisions, with research & education spanning from global challenges related to sustainability & energy supply to astronomy & space sciences. SEE also hosts two major infrastructures, Onsala Space Observatory (OSO) & Chalmers Power Central, and consists of about 250 employees.

Information about the fellowships
The Astronomy and Plasma Physics (AoP) division is the centre for Astrophysics research at Chalmers University and is the primary host of the Chalmers Initiative on Cosmic Origins (CICO). AoP personnel are situated at the main Johanneberg Campus and at Onsala Space Observatory (OSO), which is the Swedish national facility for Radio Astronomy. The observatory operates telescopes in Sweden, shares in the APEX telescope in Chile, and hosts the Nordic ALMA Regional Center (ARC). The research activities at Chalmers are very broad, including interstellar medium studies, astrochemistry, star and planet formation, exoplanets, evolved stars, observational cosmology, and galaxy formation and evolution.

Several Cosmic Origins fellowships, hosted by CICO, are advertised. One or more positions are three-year (2+1) fellowships at Chalmers. A successful applicant will lead an ambitious, independent research program related to Cosmic Origins science, expected to align with the wide range of astrophysics research within CICO and its partner institutes. The research themes that are of particular relevance are galaxy formation and evolution, interstellar medium, astrochemistry, star cluster formation, high-mass and low-mass star formation, and planet formation and evolution, from both theoretical and observational perspectives.

One fellowship is part of the Chalmers-UVA fellowship that is a four-year position, shared between Chalmers (2 years) and the Department of Astronomy, University of Virginia, Charlottesville, VA, USA (2 years). A successful applicant will lead an ambitious, independent research program related to Cosmic Origins science, expected to align with the wide range of research at the two host institutes. The research themes that are of particular relevance are galaxy formation and evolution, interstellar medium, astrochemistry, star cluster formation, high-mass and low-mass star formation, and planet formation and evolution, from both theoretical and observational perspectives.

For all fellowships, funds and opportunities for dissemination and international collaboration will be available. The Fellows will be encouraged to lead work that is in close collaboration with the other members of the group and partner institutes.

Major responsibilities
Your major responsibility as postdoc is to perform your own research that is synergistic with the goals of CICO and its partner institutes.
