The Department of Forest Resources Management at the University of British Columbia-Vancouver Campus is looking for an enthusiastic and self-motivated scientist with experience in hydrologic modelling. The successful candidate will contribute to research aimed at understanding and quantifying the effects of natural and anthropogenic forest disturbances at the stand, small, medium and large watershed scales in snow-dominated environment. Applicants must have demonstrated strengths needed for the application of existing hydrological models, and making source code changes and adapting these models to the simulation of the hydrology of disturbed watersheds. The candidate must have strong background in physical hydrology and a sound understanding of the interactions of the vegetation cover with processes such as snow accumulation, melt, evaporation and transpiration. Applicants must have strong mathematical and computer skills. A basic foundation in forestry and previous experience with the use distributed models such as the Distributed Hydrology Soil Vegetation Model (DHSVM) of Wigmosta et al. (1994 WRR) will be considered good assets.

Preference will be given to candidates with strong communication skills and who demonstrated abilities to conduct research and publish in scientific journals. Only candidates who hold a Ph.D. degree at the time of appointment can be considered for this position.
