We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoc to develop a new technology for CO2 capture at CHEC Research Center, Department of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering, DTU.

The CHEC Research Center focuses on the application of chemical engineering principles in combustion processes, gasification, catalysis, advanced measurement technology and control of harmful emissions. Our main purpose is to assist the industry and the public authorities in selecting, developing, designing and operating efficient processes that have great benefits from the desired products with a low impact on the environment.

Responsibilities and qualifications
The research position is a part of a project funded by the Velux Foundation, which investigates and develops a calcium based process for CO2 capture by application of new type of heat storage materials for minimizing energy penalty. The postdoc project aims at developing and screening new types of high temperature heat storage materials and applying the material to the so-called pressure-swing CO2 capture process.

The main responsibilities and tasks of the postdoc will be:

  • To develop a method to produce encapsulated particles with screened heat storage materials.
  • To evaluate the produced heat storage particles in an STA setup to obtain the knowledge of storage capacity of the materials.
  • To conduct systematical experiments in a lab-scale setup for CO2 capture with pressure-swing in the absence and presence of the heat storage material.
  • To perform process simulations of the new CO2 capture process and compare to the existing processes.
  • To disseminate the results in peer-reviewed journals.

As a formal qualification, you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent). In addition, the following qualifications are required:

  • Excellent knowledge of material science and production of structured particles.
  • Good knowledge on CO2 capture technologies.
  • Experience to perform high temperature lab-scale experiments.
  • Experience on process simulations
  • An excellent team worker.
  • High curiosity and interest in research and solving challenging theoretical and practical problems.
  • Fluent in English
