The Max Planck Institute of Immunobiology and Epigenetics in Freiburg (Germany) has an opening for a Postdoctoral Position in Proteomics for an initial period of three years.

The position will be available in the proteomics unit of Dr. Gerhard Mittler.

The Max Planck Institute of Immunobiology and Epigenetics (MPI-IE) in Freiburg, Germany is an interdisciplinary research institution that conducts basic research in two key areas of modern biology: Immunobiology and Epigenetics. Central questions address the molecular basis of cell type identities, as they are regulated during immune cell differentiation, metabolic response and epigenetic chromatin adaptation.

Your tasks:

Are you an experienced protein (bio)-chemist or mass spectrometrist looking for a new challenge? As a Postdoctoral Researcher, you have the great opportunity to explore novel and apply established proteomics methods to epigenetics/chromatin research and RNA biology! In this context you will develop (direct)DIA and SureQuant methodologies on the Exploris 480 platform to enable low input analyses. Furthermore, you will expand our capabilities to perform spatial proteomics (proximity labeling, APEX) of chromatin higher order structures. You will also collaborate with other research groups in ongoing proteomics-based projects. Besides, you will have the opportunity to develop novel ideas and work on additional independent projects that align with the above-mentioned research themes. Notably, the ideal candidate will contribute to the implementation of newly emerging workflows for proteomics data analysis (directDIA, deep learning) and their application in service and collaboration.

Your qualifications:

Invited are applications from ambitious candidates that hold a PhD degree in bioanalytical sciences (analytical chemistry/biochemistry/biotechnology) or have been comparably educated with at least three years of training and hands-on expertise in mass spectrometry-based proteomics technology. You are familiar with LC-MS maintenance and operations including processing of complex data sets. Sound knowledge in quantitative and statistical analysis is considered as an asset. Basic knowledge in programming (R, python) is highly desirable. You demonstrate creative thinking and a high degree of independence as well as excellent communication skills in English. Your result-oriented attitude enables you to successfully contribute to projects as part of a team and at the same time develop your independent profile.

We offer:

Located in a region that connects Germany, France and Switzerland, our institute offers an international research environment with outstanding infrastructure facilities and a positive working atmosphere that places a high value on work-life balance.

  • Salary according to your qualification and professional experience according to TVöD
  • Social benefits in line with public service
  • Professional training and development opportunities
  • Challenging work in a modern working environment
  • Family-friendly offers (affiliated day care center at the institute, parent-child room, breastfeeding room, pme family service)

We value and promote diversity, inclusion and equal opportunities, so we welcome applications from all backgrounds. We particularly welcome applications from severely disabled people. We would also like to increase the proportion of women in areas where they are underrepresented and therefore expressly encourage women to apply.
