The Department of Mathematics at Stockholm University consists of three divisions: Mathematics, Mathematical Statistics, and Computational Mathematics. This postdoctoral position is attached to the latter. The Division of Computational Mathematics carries out research in a wide range of topics including programming logic, algorithmic graph theory, computational biology, numerical analysis, and computational statistics. The topic of the position is closely related to the Computational Biology group with experts in Bioinformatics and Biomathematics.

Project description
A broad spectrum of different projects within computational mathematics are possible, but with a preference for projects related to discrete and computational biomathematics which includes topics such as phylogenomics, relations between homologous genes or population genetics.

Main responsibilities
The main responsibility is to carry out research. The position also includes some teaching duties (up to 20 %), which may include supervision of students. The successful applicant is expected to contribute to the activities of the department, through active participation in seminars, working groups, etc.

Qualification requirements
Postdoctoral positions are appointed primarily for purposes of research. Applicants are expected to hold a Swedish doctoral degree or an equivalent degree from another country.

Assessment criteria
The degree should have been completed no more than three years before the deadline for applications. An older degree may be acceptable under special circumstances, which may involve sick leave, parental leave, clinical attachment, elected positions in trade unions, or similar.

In the appointment process, special attention will be given to research skills. Applicants are expected to be able to express themselves fluently in English both oral and written, have good communication and social skills. Special emphasis will be placed on the candidate’s potential to contribute to the research project in the mentioned subject areas and preference is given to candidates with experience of biomathematics, algorithm design and computational complexity. 

Terms of employment
The position involves full-time employment for a maximum of two years, with the possibility of extension under special circumstances. Start date 2022-03-01 or as per agreement.
