A 3-year PhD scholarship in metal-organic framework (MOF) chemistry and physics is available at the Department of Chemistry. The project will be under supervision of Associate Professor Kasper S. Pedersen and is starting as soon as possible.
Responsibilities and qualifications
The PhD project will focus on the design, synthesis, and characterization of new types of magnetically frustrated metal-organic network structures. This includes also the detailed elucidation of structural and physical properties, and electronic structures. The project will be conducted in close collaboration with the Laboratory for Quantum Magnetism at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (EPFL). The candidate will spend a significant part of the project period at EPFL and at international large-scale facilities (synchrotron and neutron sources) in Europe and in the US. The project will have significant impact on the understanding of chemical design of frustrated magnetism and novel magnetic ground states in metal-organic materials. Active dissemination of the obtained results, in scientific articles and through participation in international conferences, is an integral part of the job.
The candidate should have a Master’s degree (120 ECTS points; or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to a two-year master’s degree) in chemistry with a focus on synthetic inorganic or organic chemistry. Experience with crystallography, spectroscopy in inorganic chemistry, and handling of air- and moisture sensitive compounds are considered advantageous. Most importantly, the candidate should be highly motivated, able to work independently and should be confident in both written and spoken English. The applicant should strive towards scientific excellence, be ambitious and hard working. Salary and appointment terms
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union. The period of employment is 3 years.
