The Department of Applied Physics is now looking for aPostdoctoral Researcher in Optics and PhotonicsWe are looking for an outstanding postdoctoral researcher to join our group for theoretical and experimental research on nanophotonics. The research will be focused on the development of novel approaches to the creation of nanostructured light sources, waveguides, optical couplers, modulators, detectors, and other nano- and microstructured components that can be used in future nanophotonic devices. The appointment is for 2 years with a flexible start in the beginning of 2022.

The research is funded by the Academy of Finland within the national flagship programme on Photonics Research and Innovation PREIN (https://prein.fi/home) and involves collaboration with the other PREIN partners, in particular with the University of Eastern Finland, Joensuu campus, and also with the University of Cologne, Germany.Your roleIn this position, you will act as an experienced key researcher in the project concerning the new-generation plasmonic-photonic integrated circuits. We expect you to be able to generate bright scientific ideas and propose new technological solutions, work independently, and lead a research team. We also expect you to actively participate in project coordination, initiation and maintaining of scientific collaboration, writing articles and funding applications, and teaching.  

Requirements

The position requires a strong theoretical and experimental background in nano-optics and experience in design, fabrication, and testing of plasmonic-photonic nanostructures. Good skills in numerical calculations and building experimental setups are necessary. Preference will be given to candidates with prior experience in the fields of optical metamaterials and photonic integrated circuits.

Location and salary

The primary workplace will be the Otaniemi Campus at Aalto University. The annual total workload of research and teaching staff at Aalto University is 1612 hours. Aalto University follows the salary system of Finnish universities. The starting salary for a Postdoctoral researcher is approx. 3700€/month. The contract includes Aalto University occupational health care.
